Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Barker left this

several days on business. They were

A. Mosier has returned from Salem
to resume charge of bis restaurant,
near the depot. He has thoroughly

evidence they are supposed to possess

ities. This afternoon Hltsman and his
wife were being questioned privately
by District Attorney Brown . A report
emanating from The Dalles and pub
lished io the Portland Telegram to the
effect that the couple had been ar
rested for complicity in the murder is
erroneous. They were at Glendale at

The preliminary term of circuit re
convened in Roseburg this morning
and adjourned at noon" until 2 o'clock
this afternoon. At the morning ses
sion Judge Hamilton heard arguments
on motions in several cases and took
them under advisement. No orders
were made additional to those pub
lished in Friday's Review.
The local squad of Exposition Guards,
consisting of P. A. Webb, M. T. Can
non, J. O. Singleton, W. 8. Threikdd,
Nicholas Moore ar,d H. M. Miller,
leavo for Portland Sunday to assume
their duties at the fair. Fred Short
also goes as bugler, ho being the only
member assigned to this duty on the
exposition grounds. Tue guards will

In the High School debate at Sulcin
Friday evening between the Roseburg
and Salem teams, the lattor was
awarded the decision by the three
judges by a vote of two to one.
The annual declamation contest of
the RoBeburg schools will be held at
the Opera House on Tuesday evening,
May 10th. The grades are divided
into four divisions, each division being
composed of one contestant from each
room In the schools. A gold medal will
be presented to the successful contest
ant In each division. Besides the dec
lamations, music, drills, etc., will com
plete the very Interesting program,
which will be published in full In Mon
day's Issue of the Rkview.
