departing, wishing the guests health,
happiness and prosperity in their new
home.
At 8:30 p. m. the same home was
thrown open by these courteous ladles

ful china and silver adding much to the
beauty of the affair. "God be with

ACCEPTED BRIBES
Four California Senators Will be Ex
pelled by Colleagues.
Sacramento, Cal., Feb. 20. The
special committee appointed to inves
tigate bribery charges against Sena
tors Emmons, Bunkers, Wright and
French recommends that they be ex
pelled from the Senate.
The Senators mentioned were hc
cused of demanding and accepting a
bribe for protecting certain building
and loan associations from 'investiga
tion by the Legislative committee on
retrenchment and reform, of which
they were members. A trap was set
for them. Marked bills were given to
a go-between, who was seen to pass the
money to them. Each Senator re
ceived $350. They have been in
dicted by the Sacramento County
Grand Jury.
It Is the general impression that the
report of the committee will be adopt
ed, and the accused Senators expelled,
as sentiment in favor of that action is
very pronounced among the members
of the body.
Land Fraud Trials in June.
Washington, Feb. 20. District At
torney Heney said today that the
Mitchell-Hermann-Williamson land
fraud cases will probably not be tried
before June. He talked the matter
over with Judge Bellinger at Portland,
and the Judge thought April a bad
month to get a jury. The court ex
pects to move back into its own quarters
in May, and does not want the trials on
while moving. Furthermore, there
will be further investigation by the
grand jury In April, which might in
terfere with the trials in court. These
investigations will be concluded before
June.
