RICE, Real Estate Agent, Roaeburg Pullman Company, but for a dozen years past the railway company has owned and operated the sleeping car equipment. In building its sleeping cars, a departure from the old standard pattern of cars lias been made to the ox tent of aading about six inches 16 the width and height of the sleepers. This permits of wider and higher berths. Length has also been added to horths, so that comfort is found in them which is lacking in ordinary sleeping cars. There Is it deal of coyote hunting lu the west that is not attended by the niceties of the club hunt. liver since the llrst pioneers pushed, their vrtxy across the .irrcat plains the coyote Iiuh holm nn outlaw, looking for no mi'i'ey at tlie hand of man. His predatory habits have made the animal the bane of the ranchman, and his howl has made him the exasperation of the ctunper and the terror of the temier t'oot. Th' ii. loo. his hahit of skulkur; j"ii.t vll!:in rille ranue has always made h:ni a ti.nlali.iu target for the man with the rille. In spite of his unpopularity with nl1 classes of men. however, the coyote has managed to Isold Ids own better than any other animal In the great west. The itnielnpe Is swiiter of foot may hap, hut not having the ciinninj.: of tlie coyote ha ln-' ii hired within riiic range until practically exterminated in many states. The ranchman's lust for fresh incur, the ecsiern tourist's desire for antlers and elk teeth and the native who .slays for Ihe market have depop ulated Colorado ami several other stares of Iht-ir best game. Tlie bear, cougar and hohcat have felt the same blighting inllucnee. but the coyote still tiguivs in tho sky line of the average v.vsteru picture. Sometimes he is un-! wise enough to eat of poisoned c:ir ea.'Tses of cat lie, hut this Is seldom. Again he falls a victim tu a coyote drive," organized by ranchmen and participated in l;y townspeople, tender-1 feet, iiewspap-. r coiTespondcnls and amateur photographers. These coyote drives' are held annually, or oftener, in nearly all western communities where the prairie pest flourishes. .0 average "drive" p.lTdlcIpatcd in by sev eral hundred individuals will yield sometimes iwenly coyotes nnd some times no'ie at all. A good deal depends on the wind, anil more depends on the coyote's cunning nnd ability to sprint. Minneapolis Journal. MfflitscctitK. Will Become General Over the Country Rioting Continues. Chicago, Aug. 12. President Don nely, of the butchers' union, declared this morning that the refusal of tho packers to listen to any plan for media tion means that the strike will be fought out to the last ditch, lie says tho men will make no recession from the stand taken and the strike will be extended to cover every class of labor handling any of the packing house products, not only in Chicago but all over the United Stales. Threats made of boycotts will now bo ordered and every possible measure taken to hinder tho packers from running their plants on a non-union basis. Considerable rioting is accompanying the delivery of meat in the down town district today. Large crowds of strik ers and sympathizers surrounded non union wagons and burled missiles at the drivers. Serious results were averted by large detachments of the police. The police are dispersing crowds which gather at the markets. The temper of the strikers is ugly since the decision of tho packers not to accept mediation became known. Dis turbances are becoming more general. A crowd of 400 strikers attacked the Lake Shore train which was carrying (iO non-union negroes from Pittsbnr and threw stones at the cars, broaking many windows. One negro drew his revolver and fired se vocal shots into the crowd, which scattered rapidly. The police failed to Hud the man why fired the shots. Suicide Prevented The startling announcement that a preventive of suicide had been discov ered will interest many. A run down system, or despondency invariably pre cede suicide and something has been f jund that wiil prevent that condition which makes suicide likely.
