Miss Vera Horner arrived Wednes day evening from Corvallis and will spend several days in this city visit ing with friends. Miss Horner was formerly at the head of the history department of the Roseburg high school. The local agent for the Chevro let automobile announces that the price of this popular machine will advance $50 on the first of March and urged that all orders be placed before that date in order to get ad vantage of the present low prices. Orval Robinett and Earl Johnson both well known Roseburg boys, were this afternoon, inducted into the spruce division and furnished meal tickets and transportation to Vancouver barracks. The young man will leave to take up their mili tary duties tonight. Prof. Henry Heidenreich arrived in Eugene Tuesday afternoon to pre sent himself to the military exam ining board for physical examination under the draft. Mr. Heidenreich, who Is a graduate of the university, is now an Instructor in the Roseburg high school, Eugene Guard. According to information receiv ed today the government surveyors who have oeen engaged in making a survey of the proposed new govern ment road' to be constructed through Canyon creek canyon beginning at Chnyonville and terminating at the Johns ranch, a distance of approxi mately 12 miles, have completed the task and It is the supposition of those close in touch with the proposi tion that actual construction work will be commenced In the near fu ture. Carroll Fancher, for many months an Oregonian carrier in this city, has resigned his position and left this morning for Portland where he will remain indefinitely. While at the metropolis Mr. Fancher will visit with his sister, Mrs. S. C. Holland. According to an announcement made yesterday, the local draft board has- received the returns on the Induction of 'Benjamin Caro and Eugene Mathias, as having; been fin ally accepted for military duty in the. land service division of the, signal corps.
