In his announcement that the government was going into the business of pur chasing spruce for airplanes, on a large scale, andi urging farmers, in dividually or in groups, and other Individuals to engage in spruce pro duction. Colonel Brice P. Disque, of the U. S. signal corps, made public the following specifications: I "All spruce purchased must be split by Wedging. The use of ex plosives in any manner whatever is prohibited. They are true to life, and exemplified by the pil grims in person. Miss Doris Glllons, of the Fern vale school, will hold Christmas ex ercises on Friday afternoon, Decem ber 21. Miss Gillons Is making an excellent record as a teacher, and all of her pupils are advancing in their studies rapidly, the school board commends her work. Estes is assisting at the local postofflce while our post master is wearing his hand in a sling. We are pleased to note Mr. Hurd' Is better. Liberty bonds, $19,500 in value, took a very sudden raise at Portland when Bank Detective Rupert walked away with them in broad daylight. But all human glory like his has its day. S. P. detectives had the privilege o decorating the bond robber with his bracelets, and no doubt he is wiser and sadder, with his brief experience of being a rich bond holder. He will, no doubt, be given ample time for reflection on his lanse from the narrow way. Mrs. S. J. Baseel is visiting her iriends in Ten Mile tnis week. Mrs. Wtm.
