IN13W YORK, Nov. 7. -Judge John Hylan, democratic and Tamamny candidate for mayor of New York City, was elected over the present mayor, John I'uroy Mitchell. ly a plurality conceded to total probably 140,000. Morris Hilqult. the social ist candidate, stands third in the mayoralty race, and William M. iien nett, the regular republican nominee was hopelessly snowed n.vter. 11 lan won by the greatest plurality ev er Riven a mayoralty candidate, and with him was elected the entire democratic ticket. The question of woman snffi age was also an issue in the state, and on the face of early returns through out the common weal t h indicat ions are that equal suffrage has carried At any rate the vote is so satisfac tory that suffrage leaders are claim ing the state by 45,000 majority. Hy lan's vote, so far as the pre cincts have been heard from, is L'sv 435. Mitchell polled a vote of 1 459, and Hilauit. the socialist, re ceived 1 3 4.810. At the regular meeting of tbe Hirla National Honor Guard: which was held last evening ilnal commit tees were selected and preparations umpleted for the splendid Thanks giving hall which will bo sponsored by the Honor Guard girl? on the night of November 1!8. "It la the in tention of the "girls" to make this event one that has heretofore been unequalled for success from an ar tistic as well us a remunerative view, and the plans as they have been prepared by a well informed ommlttee promise to be more than successful. With the proceeds derived from the hall articles will be purchased for the soldiers and the needy civfT- Iuns and because of the worthiness of the various projects undertaken by the Honor Guardt organization it Is sincerely hoped that the citizens of Koseburg will co-operate and give their earnest support to the girls. Classes in Ural uid, social sorvice and telegraphy occupied al goodly portion of the evening and a great deal of pleasure and benefit is being gained h,y the ghdtv in the ejaae work. Military drill was thoroughly en- Joyed and Sergeuns Oelwin V. Jewett, of the 4th company, coast artillery drilled the 70 girls who participated In this splendid feature. Sergeant Jewett was highly pleased with the achievement already accomplished 4nd proclaimed the exhibition us tiite wonderful. In the business session several im portant matters were brought up. If was decided to purchase yarn and knit mufflers for the drafted men, whom it was learned are improperly clothed as yet. and are suffering from the cold. Ilecause of the Increasing business matters In the Honor Guard it was . found necessary to appoint an as sistant secretary. Miss Clara Put rick, one of the must popular mem bers of tho Girls' National Honor Guard in this city, was chosen for this important position and will take up her duties at once. Numerous other matters were dis cusseiMnit foremost In the minds of tho girls at the present time is the Thanksgiving ball and the universal ent husiasiu and support of every member of the organization is di rect ed to the task of making tho dance an event that will never be forgotten in the social circles of the city. COUNTY COURT MEETS The county court Is in regular session tod a . County Commission er Nichols arrived from Kiddle and Commissioner St. John arrived from Siitherlin this morning and the task ol auditing the county's bills was commenced early today.
