Dolan Writes Interesting ly From The Aviation Field In Texas- SEES ALL SORTS PEOPLE The "Hard Roiled Bird" Is Thoro as Well as the ltcflned Mar Hunan Hoh Heen Transferred to Tor onto With Aero Corps. The following Interesting letter was received today from Wm. Dolan by one of his local friends. Mr. Do lan Is near San Antonio, Texas, serv ing with an aero squadron: Well I received your letter the oth er day and was gladi- to hear from you, and as I have nothing to do will answer your letter. I and live other men were appointed as firemen for district No. 4 of Camp Kelly and all we have to do Is lay around on our bunks in the fire tent and! be ready in case of Are. We have one chem ical engine and some fire hose to keep In good condition as they have Inspection once each week and fire drill twice each month. It is a pret ty nice Job though as we have no fatigue work to do nor any guard duties and do not have to drill unless we want to, for myseir I like to drill and do whenever I get the chance. There is a follow by ttao name of Pounds from Canyonvill in here with me. They put up a notice on the bulletin board the other day that 8.11 men up for the officers reserve were to be put In a equadron hy them selves until they were caleld up so that means that Leo Devaney will leave my squadron which I hate as It will not seem like home without him around. Mar Hanan is In the 27th aero squadron and he leaves to morrow for Toronto, Canada, so that will leave Al and I here alone, as Bill Taylor left about a week ago with the 2 1st -for Bellville, 111. There were eight squadrons, left here last Saturday and.there are" about that many going to leave' within two weeks from now. I do not know whether we will leave with that bunch or not and will not know un til about tweny-four hours before we leave as that is all the notice they give now. We do not see any more fancy fly ing down here, as the colonel of our camp has issued orders prohibiting It, all we see now Is Just the straight flying. There were about fifty were came in from Vancouver the other day. so you see that will help to in crease Oregon's popularity In this camp. I see by one of the papers where all the 4 th company and sanitary troops are located at Ft. Stevens for good. Sometimes I wish I had stay ed with them, but I believe 1 would rather be here Just at present as I have a better chance to see some of the world than they have and I have gained experience that Is worth quite a hit to me (pick and shovel). I will never regret Joining the aviation section of the signal corps as to esti mation it is the best branch of ser vice going, and in time it will be a branch of service n a class by tself and not attached to the signal corps. Yoai had better come on down. It sure is funny to hear the "rooks" crab about having to do so much work. I can remember very well how it was when I first got here. It seemed that all the work was com ing to us but I see now how it is divided up, but If they were to pro hibit crabbing In an army camp all tho pleasure would be gone. When we get out of this army we will all- have something to talk about- that happened during our enlistment from the time we were In line holding up our right hands and saying "I do," to the time that we are handed our discharges, and after we get -out we will meet someone wo know wherev or we go as I have met more follows here than ever heforo and of all kinds from tho "hard boiled" bird to the guy who wears a wrist watch and bis name Is ' Porclvnl." The paper kid out here this morn ing sold all the papers he had in no timo'due to the announcement that China had entered the war and also a big head lino saying something about peace. I will bet there is not a soldier here who would not give his mil month's pay for ponce. I guess the town is protty near gono. now since nil tho soldiers have left, at that I wouldn't mind being back there for a week or two. It has finally come to the day down here where a civilian is a thing or the past nnd now it Is nil sol diers or no one at all. If it were not for this camp hero San Antonio would be put off the map entirely. When I first came down hero a sol dier was laughed at when he came to a dance, but now it is just the op posite nnd we are welcomed every where in our khaki. Tho Red Cross down here give an entertainment about onco a week and Invite tho whole campp. Thero are three other camps besides Kelly nnd tboy nro Camp Funston for officers reserve and Camp Wilson for infan try, and aviation men both. They are nil within about five miles from San Antonio, so you can see how the city benefits by the army. They are clearing off a 6.000 acre piece oi ground to build more barracks on Just across the road, so that will mean quite an enlargement to Camp Kelly and more fatigue work for the rookies coming in. 1 hate been In this army for Just three months to day and.it seems like about three weeks ago since i left on No. 16 for Portland and left Rosebufg behind for an' indefinite length of time. Well as I have given you all the news from here I will await news from the best town in tho slate. Write soon. Regards to all. Your old friend, WM. DOLAN, Camp Kelly. 45th Aero Squadron, S. San Antonio, Texas. P. 8. You don't all need to b afraid of writing to me for fear I will not get it as they can transfer my mail easily. I would not mind 'reading a News once in a while home papers look good. Will end you a San Antonio "Express." and "Light"- in exchange. A UNIFORM FOR HOME liCAUD. Secretary of War Answers Questions That Have Flooded Washington. Various communications have come from organizations throughout the country relative to a uniform which would not conflict with section 125 of the national defense act, approv ed June 3, 1916, with regard 10 the protection of the federal uniform. While the war department may make no official ruling on what constitutes an observance or a violation of that section of the law, the secretary of war does, Informally, suggest the fol lowing uniform, which may ba used without variation, or with any changes which do not bring it into conflict with the above cited section! of the. national defense act. It you are accustomed to woke up with a coated tongue, foul breath or a dull, dizzy headacho; or, if your meals sour and turn Into gas and acids, you have a real surprise await ing you. To-morrow morning. Immediately upon arising, drink a glass of hot water with a tcaspoonful of limestone phosphate In It This is Intended to first neutralize and then wash out of your stomach, liver, kidneys L and tbirty feet of intestines all, the indi gestible waste, poisons, sour bile and toxins, thus cleansing, sweetening and purifying the entire alimentary canal. Thoso subject to sick headaches, backache, bilious attacks, constipation or any form of stomach trouble, are urged to got a quarter pound of lime stone phosphate from tho drug store and begin enjoying this morning inside-bath. It is sold that men and women who try this become enthu siastic and keep It up daily. It is a Bplendld health measure for It is more important to keep clean and pure on the inside than on the outside; because the skin pores do not absorb impuri ties into the blood, causing disease, while the bowel pores do. Tho principle of bathing Inside is not now, as'mitlions of people practice It. Just as hot water and soap cleanse, put fy and freshen the skin, so hot wnter and a teaspoonfut of limestone phosphate act on the Btomach, liver, kidneys and bowels.
