Cottrell today caught a lario aalmon while fishing off the Oak street bridge. On account of the height of tho structure above the wator it was several minutes before the fish could be landed. K Is estimated that a larg er nunicr than usual will take the state examinations this spring. Scarlet Fever in City. A case of scarlet raver was dis covered today by Dr. E. V. Hoover in a family resluing on South Jackson street. He immediately quarantined I ho household and notified the city health officer, and it. Is not believed that any other exposures have been made. It is claimed that the case originated from an exposure to the (flaeuse In one of the rural communi ties, no quarantine having been es tablished. Crocodiles Hero. Three largo crocodiles are at tho present time housed in the Wolls- I'argo offices on the depot grounds and will probably be sold at 'some llmo in the near future. The ani mals wore refused at the local 3tation by the Al. G. llarncs circus and are now left to the disposition of the Uompany. They are attracting a great deal of attention here. That is what the army and navy recruiting ofllcers want to know, in addition to whether one has a flat foot. For the benefit of those who arc not familiar with hammer toes, ,ne doctors give the Intormatlon that it is a condition wherein the muscles underneath the toe contract, raising the toe so that part of the weight is placed on the end of the toe. A flat foot Is where the arches have broken and the under surfaco of tho foot all touches when walking. As marching is part of a soldier's business, hammer toes and flat foot are tabooed. - New Rural Mall Boxes. This item of information Is for tho farmer hoys. According to Instruc tions from Washington in regard to rural mail boxes, the farmer cannot buy an old stylo mall box and tuku It with him to a now location, but he can take his own box with him. That Is if a farmer changes his location and happens to need a new mall box, ho Is obliged to buy one of the new stylo, according to regulations receiv ed from Washington.
