County Fruit Inspector Strang, ol Roseburg, was in Sutherlin the first of the week and made an inspection of several orchards in the Valley. lie reports the trees here as being in excellent condition. The sheriff was searching for Frank Carona, nn honor' man who escaped from tho gang of prisoners who are working on the roads near Roseburg. -Glen dale News. , Mrs. G. H. Pullem of Jasper, Ore gon, arrived in Roseburg last night. She was met at tho train by her brother who took her to the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Bond, who reside at Glide. She will visit with them for a couple of weeks Miss Helen Bennett, who was seri ously injured in an automobile ac cident two weeks ago, was able to be out last Monday for the first timo since the mishap. It is understood that Dr. Bennett will bring suit against the county for. damages, nnd those familiar with the condition of the road where the accident occurred believe he has a good case. Suther lin Sun. J Work has been commenced on the garage operated by Jas. Newland on Cass street. On account of the de mand for the Dodge Brqs. car, he has been forced to increase the size of his building and is erecting a workshop in the rear of tfce present structure. The addition will be about 24 by 28 feet in size and will allow a great deal more space for display and storage purposes. . P. M. Fulton, district commercial agent for the Western Union office, and A. J, Barash, from the Seattlo of fice, came to Roseburg yesterday and are making arrangements for the improvements which are to be made in their office here. The (place where the office will be located has not yet been determined, but Mr. Barash has Jaken measurements of several locations, and has made rec ommendations to the company. J. W. Perkins left this morning for Eugene from where ho will re turn with his nuto which wag left there when ho returned from Now port ta , few days ago. Mr. Perkins made the trip from Roseburg to Cor--allin by auto on bis way to the re port and on -his return drove the ma f'hino as far as Rugeno, when he was forced to leave ft on account of the muddy condition of the roads an.! return by train. He expects to be gone only a short time. Win. Grubbe the well known Wil bur resident was In Roseburg yes terday afternoon and spent several hours attending to business matters. J. T. Brand and wif arrived in (his city last night nnd will visit with Mr. Brand's broter C, A. Brand for a week on ten days. Mr. nnd Mrs. Brand were married only a short time ago in Cleveland, Ohio, she hav ing been Mrs. Irene Merely before; her marriage. They will leave soon for Marshfield where he has a Jarire law practice and also holds the posi tion of city attorney.
