Xcllis Hamlin's Frat Ontertnins. Alpha Tau Omega fraternity of the University of Oregon entertained during tho spring vacation at a house party on tho upper McKenzlo river at the Log Cabin Hotel. The party left CTirly Sunday morning by automobiles, reaching the hotel sixty-five miles up In the Cascades Jato In the evening, after having lin gered by tho way to fish and picnic. During the week hikes wore made to the hot springs at Belknap, Foley Springs, Lookout Jit. and Blue river. The evenings were spent in dancing, producing amatour vaudc vlllo shows and games. Each day a mln.aturo newspaper was published humorously reciting the happenings of the day. Besides a number of the young men of tho fraternity, of which Nellls Hamlin, son of .Mr. and Mrs. F. II. Hamlin, is a member, the party Included ten young ladies and a group of patrons and patronesses. Tho house party Is to be an annual event for the fraternity. Mrs. Pengra, who formerly lived in Roseburg, but whose home is now In Iiukcr, Ore., is visiting friends hero, after having spent sovernl months in Washington, D. C, and other eastern cities. Mrs. Pengra spent several days with Mrs. S. A. Sanford at her country home, and Is with Mrs. II. H. Staploton at pres ent. Miss Buick und Mrs. J. E. The girls industrial club of the Fullerton school were fortunate enough to have Miss Cowgill, the In dustrial club leader from Corval'.is, at their meeting yesterday after noon. Mr. O. C. Brown, County School Superintendent, who is en thusiastically supporting thoi Indus trial movement, was present and made a few Introductory remarks in presenting Miss Cowgill, who th-a gave a demonstration of scientific canning, explaining as she proceed ed, the whys and wherefores of the process, which the fifty or moro girls who were present took down in the noto books they are keeping. This club, tho but recently organ ized, is already "doing things" and today held a window sale of articles made or cooked by the girls, assist ed by members of the Parent Teachers association, and will do nate the proceeds to the piano fund for the Fullerton school. The club has for Its president. Miss Vernlta Kohlbagen; vice-president, Leslie Butnor; secretary, Margaret Zim merman; treasurer, Helen Campbell; and for advisor, Mrs. Butner. They expect to keep up the club work dur ing the vacation months and give even more attention to it then as they will not have other sc&aol duties to absorb their time.' The monthly social meeting of the Ladles Aid Society of the Presby terian church was made the occasion of a farewell for Mrs. Lux on Thurs day afternoon when it met at the home of Mrs. Alva Bellows In West Roseburg. Early spring roses In lovely shades of cream and gold decked the rooms and drew many admiring comments. After a brlel business session in which plans were made for serving dinners during tho carnival and convention to be held here in May, the meeting was given over to sociability. Mrs. Jean Pitts, as president of the society present ed Mrs. Lux with a dozen Haviland cups and saucers as a token oi the affectionate esteem in which she is held by the ladies of the organl zation. Mrs. Fory then sang Mrs. Lux's favorite song, "Tho Naughty Little Clock,"" and for an encore sang "Last Night". Little Marie Fory also sang very sweetly, "Jesus Loves Me, In her childish treble. The refreshment committeo for the afternoon, composed of Mesdames Bellows, Aiken, Chandler, Shoemak er, and Misses Clapp Jand Buick; served a dainty repast to the guests, who numbered more than fifty. They were as signed to uphold tho different vlcw-j points of three Chinese concerning tho disposition of a supposed 50,-J 000,000 fund for the best interests of their country. One stood for the expenditure of the money in national defense, the construction of subma rines, battleships and equipment of armies, whilo the other two were staunch In their advocacy of educa tion and Christlanization. The treat ment of the subject was very inter esting, and had been studied and prepared with thoroughness. The Rev. Wilson, who left Sunday morning for Oklahoma on an extended visit. Other than the cantata, the program will be entirely different from that which was rendered last Easter. Booth lort this morn ing to Join her husband at Byron Springs, California, where Air. Booth has spent the past ten days for the benefit of his health. Mr. and Mrs. Booth will remain at the springs for Beveral days, and from thero will make a trip east, going over one of the northern routes, stopping at Buffalo and Pittsburg for brief visits with friends, and making the delightful trip down the Hudson to New York where Mr. Booth has husi- i ness to attend to. The return trip I will be over a southern route, through the mountains of Kentucky, and includes a visit at the Grand Canyon of the Colorado and a visit of several days in southern Cali fornia. The entire trip will cover more than four weeks. Seven years ago there were born In the vicinity of Glendale four baby girls, on the 16th, 17th, 18 and 19th of April, respectively. Three of these still live there, nnmely, Ethel Smith, Sinna Hill and Beulah Van Guilder, and in their honor, Airs. J. C. Van Guilder gave a party Wed nesday afternoon to which a number of their playmates were invited to help celebrate the anniversaries. The South Deer Creek Grange held a splendid social meeting at the hall last night, nt which time an amusing comedy sketch was presort ed on the stage by some of the memoer8. Mrs. F. A.
