It has been reported to tho Com mercial club by the manager of Sun shine ranch, that some interesting experimental work is being done; along agricultural lines by this pro greaHive grower. Eighteen acres of loganberries have been set out which are now two years old, and havo been trollised, and which are expected to produce a considerable crop this year. Mr. Lawrence will extract and bottle the juice Tor the market and this will be done under the supervis ion of the extension department of the Agricultural college at Corval lis. This will be the first time logan berry juice has been manufactured commercially in the Umpqua valley, and the experiment will be watched with interest by the industries de partment of the local Commercial club, as It may be the means of at tracting a large extracting and bot tling plant for this purpose. It has been demonstrated that loganberries grow splendidly and with an excel lent flavor here, and the market is constantly increasing for the bottled product both on this coast and in the eastern markets. The Commer cial club is also working on a plan for a canning, pickling and fruit juice manufacturing plant at Hose burg, uml the results of this experi ment may be one of the means of securing such a plant. ' i As reported through these Vol-1 umns a week ago, the Koseburgi Commercial club has secured enough' fiber flfix seed for tho planting o"j five acres and this hps been alottod to five growers in various parts of the valley. One of these growers' Is unable to plant his quoto tlilsj year, so the Commercial club will offer this lot to any farmer of re sponsibility who will agree to plant and cure for it, and furnish the Btruw: so grown for shipment tho state flax plant at Salem where It will be retted and scutched and the returns paid to. tho grower. The grower will lo re-' quired to pay $3 for this seed, (onej and one-half bushels , In the fall when the crop is gathered.
