The Leap Year party given at the Armory by the members of the sew ing club on Wednesday night was one of the most enjoyed social events of the season, as was evidenced by the spirit of Jollity which prevailed dur ing the entire evening. The Leap Year Idea was carried put in ovory . particular and added much to the cn "torlalnment of the party, .iccclvlng the guests who numbered about one hundred and fifty were the hostesses, "i.iaines Boltor, Wharton, Hollows, Josophson, llargar, and the Misses Velle Barker, Pearl Stuart and Mar garet McClfulen.i Tbe hall was tastefully docorated In greens, palms and fir boughs be ing used In profusion, while the bal cony was adorned with- rustic bark receptacles filled with fernery. Card tables were arranged under tho bal cony for those not caring to dance, and prizes were later awarded to the high scorers who were Mrs. John White and Mr. Ilowurd Stewart. When the guests had assembled, dance programs wore distributed and in accordance with the Leap Year custom, the ladles made out tun cards for the gentlemen whom they had oscorteil to tho party. Great chagrin wns felt by the ladles who had been remits in tho matter of pending flowers, Dr Stewart proving to be tho only ono so favored by his lady who was Miss Helen Jane Ham ilton. Before the dancing began, Mips Mndge .,miur favored the company with a song nnd responded gracious ly to the encore. Ott's orchestra thru began the stratus of tho grnnd march which was icd by Mrs. Dora Bolter and Mr. A. Snlzman. The Misses Teka Hayncs, Muybollo Wil son, Iris Ilico, riorenco Wharton nnd Alice Beocroft presided over tho punch bowl during the evening nnd Intormlssions wero called in tho dancing to permit the pnrty to enjoy a song by Mr. Howard Stewart and a very humorous rending by Mrs. K. A. Stewart. Lntor In the evening the guests woro invited Into tho rending room of the Armory which had boon transformed for the nccaslon Into a dining room. Long tables were laid with places for tho entlro party nnd daffodils added their note of Jionuty to the scene. After partaking or re freshments, thu dancers returned to tho floor and finished their list of en- pngonients, which completed n very delightful evening. ! Williams bad planned to celebrate her 77th birthday In a very quiet manner yesterday, but she "reckoned without her hoBt" for her devoted relatives did not intend to let the occasion slip by unher alded. The plans for the surprise were so well laid by her daughter, Mrs. M. Sanders and Mrs. E. B. Per rlne, that not a suspicion of com ing festivities entered Mrs. Williams' mlnil until the parly arrived at her home. The surprise was a very happy ono to her, and she joined with the party In the singing of old Bongs, which were led by Mr. and Mrs. Per rine, who also rendered other music al numbers. Mrs. Sunders had man oged to secrete the birthday supper to the house, and at a late hour this was served by her, assisted by Mrs. Perrlne, At the conclusion of the repast, Hon. A. C. Marsters, act ing as master of ceremonies, pre sented Mrs. Williams with a beauti ful down comforter as a token of affection from the assembled rela tives and friends . He then paid a loving tribute to his aunt who Is the only surviving member out of eleven children In the elder generation of the Marsters family. At a local Institute held In Oak land today, several educators from Itoseburg were present and contrib uted to the program. Among these were Supt. Hamlin, who spoke on Teachers' Tenure of Office; Prln. R. G. Hall, of the Rose School, on the American Pioneer: Miss Elizabeth Pnrrott, on 'the Montesorri System, and Miss Ethel Yates on the value of domestic science in the public schools. Prof. G. E. Ferrll, first assistant to 0. II. Benson, the club leader In the educational bureau at Washington, D.
