Thore is prac tically no competition. German rgents have given up attempts to boost prices of horses because of the British blockade. At present France and Italy are the only ones doing any buying. French agents purchase an average of about 4 00 horses a day. It Is esti mated that more than 2,001) horses aro purchased daily throughput the country by agents of tho allies. Horses bought hole are shipped to Crestline, 111., 25 miles from h"re, whero they are quartered until there arc enough lo make a train load. Then they aro shipped to j Portland, Maine, or Jersey City, N. .1., rrom whence they are shipped abroad. According to dealers, there are enough horses In tho United States to supply the warring nations for the next five years without causing a scarcity. They say there are 7. 000,000 horses in this country. The standard price for cavalry horses Is $133 and for heavy artil lery horses, $160.
