Vernon, a pioneer preacher and farmer of Oregon and Douglas county, died early this morning at his home In West Roseburg. Mr. Vernon was born In Cole countv, Missouri, October 5, 1S44, and came to Oregon In the year J 853. He be- camo ia member of the Christian church when 18 years of age and for 40 years gave faithful service as a minister. He then purchased a farm at Looking Glass, where he mado ihls home for several years, moving to this city about a year ago. Ho Is survived by a wife and three children, one son nnd two daughters. J. A. Vernon, formerly of this city, but at present residing In Portland; Mrs. Darneal, of Oaltsdale, Wash., and Mrs. G. T. Stivers, of Eugene.
