Riddle was fortunate In having the Liberty Bell stop ere for about three minutes last Thursday evening, when the largest crowd of people ever gatiliercd togothor In Riddle, paid their respects to the historic relic. The bell was greeted with fire works and the Riddle band and loud cheers, and as the bell glided away on Its journey It left a thrilled crowd of people with raised hata and wet eyes singing America! . D. F. Everette left Sunday evening to attend the Rexall Druggists con vention which Is being held in San Francisco, and to enjoy the sights of ti'ie exposition. Mrs. Mary Riddle and grand chil dren Margaret Crosby and Frances Frater nnd Julius Riddle are ex pected home this week from a five weeks trip by auto to the San Fran cisco and San Dtogo fairs. Nomh Cornutt is constructnig a flno brick .milk house on his farm northeast of town. Mr. Yarhough, of Myrtle Creek, is seriously 111 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jlen Nichols. Mr. Yarbough, who Is quite aged, was taken 111 whllo visiting the Nichols stock ranch 20 miles above Tiller. Dr. W. F. Knlser was called up there nnd brought his patient down to Rid dle Sunday. Mrs. Hurry Cutsforth entertained the Pricilla club at her home last Thursday afternoon. ' D. C. Boyd, editor of the Riddle Tribune, returned Thursday from a two weeks vacation at Portland and other points. Mrs. Parazoo Tin- old time settler of the Tiller district above Canyon ville, was quite seriously injured Sunday from a fall from a horse. Dr. W. F. Kaiser, of Riddle, was hasten ed to the Injured woman and reports the Injuries are severe. Miss Mary McClarnan, of Yoncalla, Is visiting at the home of her sis ter, Mrs. C. A. Riddle. The hoys of the. younger set ten dered a party to their friends Satur day evening at Rasor hall, games and music were enjoyed and refreshments served, the young folks departing at midnight after a pleasant evening. P. A. WllBon ihas received his ap pointment of road supervisor for Riddle' district No. 1 T to succeed Sam Ball, who has been promoted to county road master. J. A. Walker, of the Standard Nursery, is having constructed a bun galow on the nursery property near town. Rev. Anderson, of Myrtle Creek, filled the pulpit of the Baptist church Sunday evening. Rev. I). B. Bowers preaching in the morning. Mr. Bowers expects to leave for Tennessee to reside the first of August. Everyone Is planning and looking forward now to the 3rd annual free venison barbecue to be held here September 6, Labor Day. You had better come everybody elBe is! On July 17 a little daughter arriv ed at the home of Mr. and MrB. Clay Ulam. Rt. Rev. Walter Taylor Stunner, D. D., bishop of Oregon, assisted by the Rev. C. W. Baker, of St. George's Episcopal church, of Roseburg, held evening services and the rite of con firmation, In the Masonic hall here Sunday evening. The hall was crowded to the limit, many coming miles to bear the sermon which was greatly enjoyed by all present. The moral training of the child was the theme of the sermon and the oft neglected parental obligation was forcibly pictured. Tho beautiful rite I of confirmation was administered to" Mrs. Harvey Brown, Miss Florence Cutsforth, Miss Dorothy Scurr, Miss Gladys Jackson and Mr. Cecil Jack son. Bishop Sumner left for Port land on (he 10 o'clock train. The basket social and concert given by the Riddle band Thursday evening was enjoyed by a large audience, and was both a social and financial success. Mrs. Geo. Riddle and Mrs. Dave Crosby went to Medford Monday. Mrs. Angelina Clark, mother of Mrs. Frelan Cornutt, who was so b-idly Injured last Thursday from a fill, Is somewhat Improved. Mrs. Clark, who Is 73 year sold, was taken with a dizzy spell and fell from the top of the 8-foot porch to the ground at the Cornutt home,' striking on her head. A gash 9 Inches in length was cut from one side of her head to the other and several ribs broken. Dr. W. F. Kaiser Is attending her. WEDDING.
