The of ficers were attracted by the light and forced an entrance by the front door, but the man escaped through the back way. Upon investigation, noth ing was found to be missing. J. L. Watson, Daniel Phelan and D. J. Jarvls have been appointed ap praisers of the late Henry W. Wood ward, and will begin making an ap praisement of the property today. This consists mainly of real estate Geo. W. Rapp Is the executor of the estate under the will which has been probated. Congressman Ilawley .left Salem last night for the border line of Cali fornia where he will meet Represen tative John J. Fitzgerald, of New York, chairman of the committee on appropriations who is coming into this state to investigate Irrigation! needs. It was expected that Con gressman C. N. George Chandler left this morning for Corvallls where he will visit with friends and relatives for a few days. J. A. Mishler and wife, of Sallna, Kans., passed through this city last night on their way to the San Francisco exposition. Orville Smith left this morning for Independence whore he is called by the death of his sister, Jessie Smith, who died yesterday. An enjoyable special program was held at the Baptist church last night In commemoration of father's day. The subject of the sermon for tho evening was "What's the Matter With Father?" Special music was fur nished by mixed and male quartettes. There is going to bo an old-fashioned celebration of the glorious 4th at West Roseburg on Monday, July 5. It will be held in Bellows park and will be a most enjoyable time. Arrangements are now being arrang ed and full notice of the program and exercises will be given later. Dine were united In marrinee. Rev. Eaton officiating. Mr. McCumber is well known In this city where he has resided for several years. The happy couple will make their home in West Roseburg where they will be at home to their many friends. ' Mrs. Jake Lenher died t her home at Camas Valley yesterday at the age of sixty years. Mrs. Lenher Is a native of Oregon, having been born at Coles Valley. She is surviv ed by three sons, John and Wm. Len her, of Camas Valley and Henry Len her, of Grants Pass, and one daugh ter, Mrs. Bert Neeley, of Camas Val ley. The funeral will be held nt Camas Valley at two o'clock this af ternoon, Rev.
