and enjoy It These pictures were taken on New Year's day and show that
the bathers are not only fair and young and good looking, but in a few cases
are well advanced In years. The picture of the old bather shows the dean ot
the clan. Though past seventy, this aged man frisks arouud in the surf like
boy and says it does him a world of good.

This would be a good time for the
county judge to view the road be
tween the watering troughs, between
Roseburg and Looking Glass. This
road is a disgrace to Douglas county
and those controlling the building
and maintenance of roads.

The last legislature transferred
the tax collecting department from
the sheriff's office to the treasurer's
office thereby making it desirable
for the taxpayers to keep a "trained
man on the job."
I have conducted this office on
strict business principles. In the In
terest of all the people, and if you
want that kind of a county treasurer
for the succeeding term I will be
very grateful for your Influence and

(lily filed a petition in the circuit
court asking authority to sell a cer
tain stock of goods, formerl yowned
by Hurst and Vanllusklrk for the
sum of $3,000.
William Gregory hns filed a suit in
the circuit court in which he seeks
to recover the sum of $500 from Vir
gil 1j. Walker. The amount of the
claim is said to be due on n promis
sory note, executed in Portland, 0:1
April 1 1, 1908. Other that the prin
cipal plaintiff asks for attorney fees
in the Bum of $75, together with an
order authorizing the foreclosure of
a certain mortgage.

bosket ball played at Syke's rink last
evening, the Roseburg high school
team defeated the Cottage Grove
team by a score of 32 to 17. The
Cottage Grove team led Tor a few

turned this week from their annual
winter trapping expedition in the
mountains near Olalla. Tlie boys were
quite successful, huving secured some
specimens of mink, and bob cat. They
also caught a big bunch of skunks
and civet cats. They boys report
that the country In and around Olal
la has been thoroughly trapped out,
for fur hearing animals, no less than
a dozen experienced parties having
leen trapping in that vicinity the
past two months. Very few fox were'
caught, as the ranchers nre all equip
ped with hunting dogs.
