Call Bt Camp bell's 2nd band store. 2095-n24 T'L7 117 P 7 JVJ 5 Ms tether ?M Dr. F. A. Cook IVory has published his book and made his charges against Dr. Cook. Claiming the North Pole, Mr. Peary has never made public an iota of the "proof" upon which he based his claim. Mr. Peary's claim has never been proven. The National Geographic Society of Washing ton awarded a medal to Mr. Peary as the discov erer of the North Pole. During the Congressional Investigation last winter, two members of this society testified that in the Peary "proofs" there was no proof. This was suppressed in the news papers. Mr. Peary himself testified that, although he had them, no tests whatever had been made of his instruments by his friends of the Geographio Society, who gave their prearranged verdict. The two cases, therefore, are parallel in the re-examination of verdicts, except that the Washington verdict was dishonest and the Copenhagen verdict was honest Dr. Cook maintains that the only proof of such a quest must be found in the explorer's narrative account. This is now told to an American audience for the first time. In his lecture Dr. Cook tells a fascinating story of life in the Arctio and the strange people who Inhabit the cold world of the Aurora; of Eskimo love-making, with a temperature far below sero; of the native' marriage customs, and the coming of the stork among them, i . I Dr. Cou& tells a story of hardships such as few men ever endured and lived.. People thrill with; his account of hazardous Arctic hunting, of his mad dash over frozen Greenland mountains during the long Arctio night, and of the perilous moonlight quest of walrus on the frozen Arctio Sea, -" SAW FILING Wm. E. Peabt Dr. Cook now makes publio for the first tim the basis of his Polar claim, and replies in toto to Mr. Peary. Dr. Cook presents in his lectures and book; which has just been published, the scientifio ob. servations which convinced him that he reached the Pole. Dr. Cook's claim has never been discredited. Dr. Cook's report was not rejected by the Unl. versity of Copenhagen, as the pro-Peary news, papers have stated. The authorities of the Unl. versity took the attitude that in suoh data thera could be no ultimate proof. Dr. Cook's instruments had been loft in tha North, and could not, therefore, be sent to th University of Copenhagen. Their verdict waa "unproven." It did not carry the interpretation that the Pole had not been reached. STOP AT Hotel Grand Cass St., Roseburg, Ore. Kitra Kor l'olimo lIKII 1111 IHHMIIM
