The following Is the text of a letter that Is being Hent broadcase to different parts of the county for help. Similar letters are being sent out by other organi sm tlonti. The letter follows: To the Friends of Mercy Hospital: On FetK 22nd, 1909, Mercy hospi tal was dedicated, and a) nee that date has been open for the afflicted. In less than four years It has cared for about one thousand patients, mostly of Douglas county. Only those v bo lived In this commnlty previous to the opening of the hospital by the Slaters of Mercy can fully appreciate the boon the hospital Is to the com munity. Where before the sick had to bo taken to Portland, of ton with great suffering, now they have the hospital close at hand, with Its mod ern operating room, private rooms and wards, all cared for by the sisters and their corps of nurses. Owing to the great expense In building and equipping the hospital, tho greater part of which was bor rowed money, the Income has never been sufficient to meet the expenses (upkeep, Interest and necessary re pairs), so that year ufter year they havo run behind. This hns necessi tated calls upn tho generosity of tho friends of the hospital. In view of this need and the great, benefit tho hospital Is to the com munity, we havo decided to ask the jmoplo of Douglas county and also thoso beyond who havo benefitted! theroby, to. Join us In a "Donation j Iay for Mercy Hospital". All donations should be sent to those places on ! Saturday, December 14th, or on the preceding Thursday or Friday. Tho need Is .urgent, otherwise this appeal would not 'be made, nnd we confidently ask yo.ur help and Influ ence In this cause. Yours slncnrly, JOSKPH MICEM.I. Dr. E. R 8TB WART. II. T.
