Harry Mattroll, night clerk at the hotel, said Fields reached the hotel shortly after the arrival of train No. H late Tuesday evening, and after enjoying a brief chat with friends In tho lobby, retired to his room on the second floor of tho hotel. Eugene Pnrrott simply testified re garding business relations with Mr. Fields, and his partner, John Y. Parker. Mr. Parrott said ho regard ed Mr. Fields as an exemplary citi zen, and was most Astonished when he hoard of the supposed suicide. Leonard Carienter, a Medford, or- ANOTHER SPECIAL SALE chardlst, said he bad been acquaint ed .with Fields for ten years, and that he was cognizant with the fact ' that the latter had suffered from fre quent spells of nervousness. These spells, Mr. Carpenter said, generally afflicted Fields In the rail of the year. Carpenter further testified that he was employed by Fields following the latter's arrival in Oregon and that their relations were most har monious. Mrs. DeMotta, a stenographer hi the -offices of District Attorney Ilrown, said she received a message from District Attorney Mulkcy, of ..ledford, late last evening to the ef fect that Fields purchased a 38-call-bre revolver from the Humphrey Hardware Company, of Medford, on .November 16. This revoler was of ihe repeating army pattern and was ;;ald for by Mr. Fields by check. II. C. Fields, of Seattle, Wash., a brother of the djceased simply testi fied regarding hit; brother's age and history. . Take ItcinafnFt Kast, Henry C. Fields and wife, the former a brother of the deceased, ar rived here from. Seattle this morning and will leave for Milton, Mass., the native home of the Fields family with tho remains tonight. Tho fun eral will be held at that place. In asmuch as Mr. Fields was much griev ed over his brother's sudden demise, no effort was made to interview him today regarding the history of the tho supposed suicide. Brown, prosecuting attorney, and ob jects to the county court setting asio the order of' prohibition heretofore made under the terms of the local option liquor law, for the precinct of Glendale, and for grounds alleges: That there was a pretenedd elec tion under tho terms of the local oh Hon liquor law hold at the time of the genornl election in Glendale pre cinct, Pouglas county, Oregon, on the 6th day of November, 1912. and the county clerk of Douglas county. Ore gon, provided by law, taking to his assistance two justices of the pence of Douglas county, Oregon, has can vassed the vote of the said pretend ed local option liquor election had on the said ;"th day of November, 1912, and has made an abstract of the votes for the Information of the county court of wild Douglas county, and from the abstract of said votes, made as aforesaid, it appears that at said local option liquor election in said Glendnle precinct more votes were cast, for prohibition tha amiinst cast for prohibition than for against prohibition for the sale of intoxicat ing liquors for beverage purposes within said precinct, the exact num ber being as shown by said abstract of votes for prohibition, and aiuiiist prohibition. That the petition praying for said election in said precinct, togethct with tho certificate of the clerk, and In the order of the court, and the ballots submitting said question of prohibition to the voters of said pre cinct, as well as the tally sheets and the said abstract made by the said clerk and the two justices aforesaid, are hereby reft-ned to and made a part of the record herein. That said pretended local option liquor election U not lawful in this: That it was held nt the time of a general election of the state of Ore gon, and the said city ef Glendale had not been made a voting precinct but said question was submitted to the voters of Glendale precinct which embraces much more territory and Is inhabited by many legal voters who voted at the general election iu wild precinct. D. 1010, determined that the sale of Intoxicating liquor for beverage pur poses should be prohibited within Douglas county, Oregon, as a whole, and thereafter the county court of Douglas county, Oregon, declared the result of said election and made an order on the 2lith day of November, littO, absolutely prohibiting the sale of Intoxicating liquor .for heverage pur)ses within the entire limits of said Douglas county. I That the prosecuting attorney Is I filing this formal objection for the I reason that he believes that the Is suance of a license to sell Intoxicating liquors by the incorporated city of Glendale would be no defense to a criminal prosecution for the unlaw ful sale .of .intpxcating liquors, and criminal prosecutions would be mul tiplied. .......
