Editor News: At tho good citizen ship meeting last night some em phasis was placed on the advisnbillty of a rending room or Y. M. C. A. In Roseburg. For my part I think this Is a good move and ought to be en couraged. To the members of the commer cial club, I would BUggoHt the wis dom of forming a Y. M.C. A. to take charge of the present club rooms, so as to give their benefits wider range. Doubtless tho publicity de partment could be well taken care of at the exhibit building. U. and Equal Suff rage Club to participate in a good , citizenship meeting. Collier made the address of welcome and presented beautiful boquets to Mrs. , A. C. Marsters, the leader of the W. C. T. U. and Carl D. Shoemaker, editor of The Evening News. Hon. A. C. Marsters spoke briefly on Roseburg and its future and In closing presented to V. L. Cobb, a boquet for the splendid work he has ( done In this city In times past. Hon. B. L. Eddy and Rev. Thomas spoke on tho Y. M. C. A. and "Good Citizenship," respectively. 'ine speaking continued till after ten .o'clock, at which time those present were conducted to the ban- coffee and pickles were enjoyed. The first meeting was held Oc tober 1st In the Club's new quarters In the Presbyterian church, and was in the form of a reception to the old members and prospective new ones. The attractive new year books were given out at that time. Tho club continues Its Stoddard Course, and Current Events has been added as a new feature. During October an Interesting and profitable study of Mexico and Flor ence was enjoyed under tho able leadership of Mrs. H. Jay Stone and Mrs, J .C. Aiken. Perhaps the most enjoyable afternoon was one given over to Mrs. Millie Trumbull for her lecture on "Mothers' Clubs and the Schools". Beyers, ad ministrator of the estate of Jacob Brown, returned a verdict late last evening In which tho plaintiff was nwarded Judgment In the sum of H25- The case was brought by Mrs. OeVVald to recover $425, alleged to be due on two promissory notes which it is claimed were executed by Brown In favor of Mrs. Weaver. The notes were found in a fruit can sev--ral months following the death of Mrs. Weaver.
