This dog was a Newfoundland, and his name was very appropriately Sailor. Wltb his collecting box strapped across his shoulders Sailor used to watch the coin ing and going of all steamers at South ampton. His mute appeal for funds to nld the Seamen's orphanage was very effective, and during his career he col lected nearly 12,500 for that Institu tion.
