E. 1 Morse returned here last evening after a day spent at Creswell looking after business matters. Mrs. C. W. Rouse returned here last evening after a few days spent at Cottage Grove and vicinity visit ing with friends. , C. L. Hamilton and A. E. David son, both residents of Oakland, were business visitors In Roseburg for a - few hours today. Miss Dollle Levins, of Elkton, was admitted to Mercy hospital last evening where she will receive medi cal treatment at the hands of Dr. Vlncil. Miss Huffer, matron at the offices of Drs. Seely, Sether, Stewart & Smick returned here yesterday after a week spent at Albany visiting with her parents. William Green, an Inmate of the Oregon Soldiers' Home, left for Med ford" this morning where he will spend a few days visiting with friends. George Wlxson, of Myrtle Creek, returned a few days ago from a five weeks' trip through the East and South, taking in all Important points from Boston to New Orleans. J. J. Brand and family, who have been spending the past few weeks at Minneapolis, Minn., and Chicago re turned here yesterday. Mr. Brand says the weather la very severe In the East, and has no desire to return There to reside. Olger Howard Lystul and Miss Elizabeth Splker, both residents of Glendule, were qultely married at Eugene on December 23, Rev Rog , i ere, of that city, otflolating. The happy couple will make their future home at Glendale where the groom has a host of close friends. He Is a farmer by occupation. ' ' The members of the Roseburg school board met at the offices of School Clerk George Neuner last evening, at which time numerous matte! s of importance came up for consideiatlon. Joseph W. Dow, a lo cal architect, was. awarded the con tract of preparing plans and specifi cations for the new school house, which will be two stories In height andVwIU contain In the neighborhood of ten room3. He will also have general supervision over the work, which will be carried out according to the plans and specifications of the architect. Another matter consider ed was that of conferring with A. J. Bellows, who hag promised to give the school district five acres of land In the event a high school building is built thereon within three years. A committee of the school board will probably call upon Mr. Bellows tomorrow, at which time a contract will be entered into by the parties concerned. In conclusion the board Instructed School Clerk Neuner to advertise for the sale of $10,000 of the bonds recently voted by the taxpayers of the district. Cook and Miss Pearl Card- well, both residents of Canyonville, were married at the home of Thom as Jackson, on January 1, Rev. G. A. Gray, pastor of the Canyonvllle Methodist church officiating. The happy couple will make their future home near Canyonvllle where the groom owns a valuable ranch. The 'hearing; of Joseph Powula. who is accused of carrying concealed weapons contrary to law, will come up before Justice of the Peace Mars ters tomorrow morning. The hearing had been previously set for this morning, but on account of the in ability of the district attorney to be present, a continuance was necesasry.
