A report which apparently gained circulation through some unauthoriz ed source, and was to the effect that six prisoners confined In the county jail made good their escape last night, caused no little confusion nbout the city this morning. Not only wns Sheriff Qulno kept busy nnswering the telephone, but a large number of peoplo congregated about the Jail at nn early hour apparent ly eager to learn the details of the alleged escape. Sheriff Quine was quite surprised, and Is nt a loss to understand how the report started. A count of the prisoners this morn ing disapproved the rumor, and was ,'i,ccepted 'with satisfaction ,by Mr. Qulno's many friends. Sheriff George Quine leaves for Salem tomorrow morning where he will deliver a number of prisoners to the authorities of the state peni tentiary. Among the number are Harry Smith, sentenced to a term of one year for stealing n buggy and harness belonging to Dr. Ilrumllcld: Louis Cruz, sentenced to n term of one year for burglarizing the liryan jewelry store; Walter Flllhouso and Hud Williams, sentenced to terms of one year each for burglarizing the home of Al Hamilton, near Glen dale, and .1. McKenna, sentenced to a term of one year for stealing a suit of clothes nod overcoat, from the room occupied by II. C. Darby, a local dtug clerk, and situated In the Hltzer rooming houe.
