Olcott and wife left for their home at Canyonvllle late Saturday after a few days spent In Roseburg and vicinity. Mrs. C. M. Orcutt returned here last evening after a couple of days J ' spent at Cottage Grove visiting with friends. Mrs. Toung returned here Satur day from Eugene where she has been spending the past few weeks visiting with friends. Miss Clarice Asher left for Cottage Grove yesterday morning where she expects to remain permanently. Miss Asher's parents reside at that city. Misses Lena Walden and Stella Mc Nutt left for Harrisburg yesterday morning where they will spend a week or ten days enjoying their an nual vacation. Edwin Weaver, the Myrtle Creek, farmer, left for his home Saturday night after a couple of days spoil l in Roseburg attending to business matters and visiting with riends. A. Llueback, who recently lost his musical store by Are, left for Falls City yesterday morning where he contemplates remaining during the summer. He was accompanied by Mrs. I.lneback. 9 Ben Doss and wife spent yester- day at Oakland where they attended the funeral of tbe late Mrs. C. O. Green. The funeral was well attend ed, while the floral offerings were many and beautiful. Mrs. Dale Strange left for Van couver, Wash., yesterday morning where she will spend a few weeks visiting with her parents. She was accompanied by her sister, Miss Car rie Robeck, who has been spending some time In this city. . 9 Miss Hendricks, of Eugene, arriv ed in Roseburg Saturday evening to spend a few days visiting at the J. C. Fullerton home In West Roseburg. Miss Hendricks has been visiting at Los Angeless and other California points and stopped off here enroute home. . Misses Arrie and Allle Black, Lucy ' Bridges and Elsie Benedick spent Saturday evening at Myrtle Creek where they rendered a delightful mu sical program at the Baptist church. A large crowd was present and the efforts of the young ladles were much appreciated. James Conn left for Red Bluff, Cal., yesterday morning accompanied by his daughter who will receive medical treatment at the springs near that place. The young lady has suf fered from rheumatism for some time past, and the attending physicians ad vised that she sneud a few weeks at the springs. I. R. Smith, manager of the local telephone exchange, returned here .late Saturday night after a day Bpent at Myrtle Creek. Mr. Smith Bays that many of those who suffered losses In the recent Are are already effecting preliminary arrangements preparatory to rebuilding the burn ed structures. Attorney Dexter Rice on Saturdny disposed of his Interests In the beautiful 2.300. acre farm, a few miles south of Roseburg, to J. H. Booth. Mr. Rice and family will re turn here to live and It is probable that the former will resume the prac tice of law In the near future. Prior to re-entering the office, however. Mr. Rice will spend two or three weeks at points on the coast. At torney Rice retired from the practice of law In May on account of 111 health, and since that time has re- sided in the country. Little Gladys Hicks, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. E. H. Hicks, of Ash land, was admitted to Mercy hospi tal this morning where she will un dergo an operation. Dr. A. C. Seely is the attending surgeon. A. L. Kitchin and Dr. Bradburn, who have been attending court at Hillsboro have gone to Hood River where they will spend a few days at tending to business matters and look ing over the country. County School Superintendent Thurman Chaney spent the day at Myrtle Creek attending to business matters connected with his official duties. Mrs. Frank Newland leaves for J Portland Tuesday morning where she j will spend a couple of weeks visiting I with friends and relatives. Her htts- uanu, wno recently returnea irom Portland has accepted a position as passenger brakeman for the South ern Pacific Company. He will make his headquarters in Roseburg. George Morris, owner of a large orchard at Medford, spent a couple of days in Roseburg visiting with an I old time friend, Mrs. S. M. Kelly. He left for his home yesterday morn ing.
