THE E VEXING NEWS. . L 1 L1 LAaoA Lalii lii la k'A A NOTABLE EVENT. Oakland Odd Fellows Entertain 850 (iucsts Last Nit;lit. A notable eveut in the history of fraternal orders In Douglas counts occurred at Oakland last night, when the Odd Fellows of that city enter tained their worthy brothers from all sections of Douglas county. The Roseburg contingent journey ed to the northern town by secial train, leaving here at 6:30 o'clock in the evening. The party was compris ed of 105 members of the Roseburg Odd Fellow lodges, many of whom reside in the surrounding country. The Bpecial train arrived in Roseburg on the return trip shortly after '5 o'clock this morning. Upon the ar rival of the Odd Fellows at Oakland they were met by a committee, select ed from the Oakland lodge, and es corted to the beautiful hall, recently erected by the Oakland Odd Fellows, where the festivities occurred. After a sort of an informal session during which the visiting members were given an opportunity to get ac quainted, the preliminary business meeting was called to order by the Noble Grand. Disposing of the reg ular business, the floor was given over to the degree team of the local Philetarian lodge, I. O. O. F., and several husky candidates were silent ly led into the hall in' readiness to assume the obligation. Concluding work in the initatory and first de grees, lodge was adjourned, and the guests repaired to the banquet ha'.l where they partook of a bouuteou; supper prepared and served by the ladles of the Oakland Rebekah lodge. Owing to the late hour, toasts and speeches were entirely eliminated from the programme. At the conclusion of the repast the guests again assembled in the main lodge hall, and after two hours' w-k the candidates were given full instructions In the second and third degrees. According to those who at tended the meeting from this city, the Oakland Odd Fellows are enter tainers of rare ability, and are cap ble of handling any number of Visit ors on such an occasion.
