Sept. 4. mf (Editor News.) I desire to have apace In your paper to correc; tome of the report In reference to the fires In this vicinity. of these fires have been greatly ex-1 aggeraled both in ncrtag - burned over and damage done. Ther has b?"n Rome unfavorable mnniem nnd reports and some articles in the pap era as to the management and meth ods of the Forest Service in fighting thp fires. Tiller hna been the head quarters since these fires started and it is only Justice to the settlers In this community, nnd the forest rangers In charge of the Are fighters, to a y that everything has been done to suppress the fire;4 and the fact that it has been put under control without rain, and the wind still blowing a gale, Is evidence of mighty good work. From my knowledge of fires, I know that there must have been the best of management to control these fires In such a short time, and un der the most unfavorable cnndltfons. Considering the amount of rubbish that was accummuhiled In many places. It is a fact that only for the firm determination of the forest ser vice and their aids, many more pri vate holdings would have been des troyed. They not only tried to help themselves hut did their dulv to stop the dm from burning private hold ings. While 1 might (in my esti mation) have done fur better, I might have made more nnd larger mistakes. Ah reports are, the mis takes were ninny, 1 from an honest sandnolnt, do not sen so ninny.
