Editor Newe: If I am not violat ing any of the "corrupt practice" laws I wish to call the attention of the public to a measure that Is de signed to be brought before the electors for adoption this fall. It is a matter which 1 think ought to bo thoroughly discussed right now, be cause If It has merit It will benr Investigation, and If It is objectional the people should know it. I will explain what I know about the mea sure. In company with another gen- tlemnn I was In a real estate office In Itosehtirg some two weeks ago, when H. T. McChillen came In to the place with a petition which he reiiuested the proprietor to sign. The real estate man said: "What havo you got here?" and McClallen replied, "It Is tho strongest prohibition law evor put before the people," Mr. Ileal Eslalo then begnn to read tho peti tion, when MctMallen went on to say that "It Is a law giving the towns the right to govern themselves with out tho Interference of the country people." The real estate dealer then signed the petition. Neither t nor the gentlemnn who was with me were asked to sign the document. I have watched the papers for the past two weeks hoping to see some thing concerning this proposed mea sure, hut have failed to find any thing about It. Since the country people and the busy class have to depend upon tho press for their infor mation concerning nolltlcfana and their doings, you will do us a great favor by puhllshfhng tho details re garding the proposed legislation, be cause we desire to bo enabled to vote Intelligently on the subject. The peo ple may have very decided views on the proposition of cities nnd towns making their own laws. It Is possible that the voters generally may feel that what Is forbldded by law In a country precinct should also govern in the towns, and more particularly j in tho county seat cities where atl the people have an Interest. Kindly ! enlighten us along these Hues, i Yours for, a snuare deal, W. U. VINSON. Mr. Vinson's letter is Interesting. and doubtless very many people In the country are desiring to know more about the measure that is pro nosed to give thp cltv prlveleges that Is denied the resident of the rural district, namely the opportunity of selling liquor, even thouch an over whelming majnrltv In tlio countv f'lould vote the cnnimnnwenttli'drv."
