Jacob L. Yokiim., aged 70 years,
and a plonoer resident of Douglas
County, passed away nt tho home of
his daughter, Mrs. O. C. Raker, in
North Roscburg, shortly nfter 1 1
o'clock Sunday morning. Death re
sulted from un attack of heart fail
ure of which Ihe deceased was af
flicted for many years. Aside from
a wldo circle of friends Iho deceased
Is survived hy two daughters, Mrs. O.
C. linker, and Mrs. Hutler Atterhury,
of this city, and ono son, James of
Canyonvlllo. Tho funeral occurred
nt the home of tho Bon this morning.

cial Club, left for Sutherlln this

About the first of the year Mr. Colt
will move his family to Sutherlln
where they will reside permnncntlv.
It goes without saying that Mr. Colt
w'ill materially assist in making
known to the world the resources of
Sutherlln Valley. He Is a wide-awake
fellow who will deliver the
goods.
C. D. Beale went to Sutherlln this
morning to look after business mat
ters. The taxpayers of road district No.
38, which comprises a part of
Southern Roseburg, voted a three
mill road levy at the special elec
tion held at Greens Saturduy. The
4 mill levy was voted down by one
voto, while tho three mill carried by
11 voteB. The opposition to the tav
was of a scattering nature, the lead
era being unable lo organize their
forces. With the money realized
from this levy together with the $800
at present In the hands of the road
supervisor, it would appear that con
slderable work can be accomplished
during tho coming tummer.
