OBITUARIES Karen E. Slaughter passed away peacefully on January 27, 2020 surround- ed by her family. She was born on August 8, 1936 in Salmon, Idaho to Elmer and Martha Way. She was the third child in a family of nine. Karen moved to The Dalles, Ore., in 1998 to be closer to her family. She was proceeded in death by her mother Martha Way; her father Elmer Way and her sister Alice Pederzani. She is survived by her children, Karen Smith, Kevin Slaughter, Suzan Davis; brothers, Bob, Jim, Charlie and Bill Way; sisters, Judy Fry and Sallie Morgan; and multiple friends. Karen requested there would be no services. Sidney T. Rowe Naomi “Nikki” Sullivan February 18, 1949 ~ January 26, 2020 April 10, 1933 ~ January 6, 2020 Sidney T. Rowe was born to Arthur and Jenny Rowe of Pocatello, Idaho in 1949. Sid grew up in Boise, Idaho with his twin sisters Jennifer and Winifred. As a teenager Sid sang in the choir, ran cross- county and played the drums in band, even per- forming at half-time for a San Francisco 49ers game. Sid was known for having the best-looking set of legs on a guy anyone had seen. After High School, Sid served 2 years honorably as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints in Germany. He came to love the German people and culture. Afterwards Sid married his bride of 48 years, Lynda Lee, then served 4 years as a lin- guist for the U.S. Army in Germany. Sid was a respected mentor, leader, teacher, busi- nessman, spiritual advisor, and friend to many. He was a life-long scholar, perfectionist, always curious, a skilled dancer, fascinating speaker, Debater. Toast- master, Scoutmaster, apple pie and breakfast chef. Dad loved life, golfing, classical music, hymns and scriptures. He was a faithful husband of one wife, treasured father to 5 children, Kellie, Sara, Ben, Loren and Megan, Grandfather to 11 and Great-Grandfather to 1. Also, survived by his beloved sister Winifred. She went peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones. She was a loving mom, grandma and aunt and had a strong faith in God. She was spunky, witty, funny, wonderfully caring and loved by many. Nikki loved to crochet and make things for her family. She was an avid reader and loved playing on her iPad. She loved to travel but wasn't able to toward the end of her life on this earth. Nikki was born in Snohomish, Wash., on April 10, 1933, to Gladys and Earl Fitzgerald. She grew up in the Northwest and raised her children in Hood River, Ore., and then she and her late husband, John, settled in The Dalles, Ore. Nikki was proceeded in death by her husband, John; parents;sister Corinne; brother Irwin; and in- fant son, Johnny. She is survived by her sister Genet'; daughters, Kitty (Mike) Filbin, Sandy Crawford; son Ken (Beth) Crawford; stepdaughters Anita (Floyd) Heiser, Sandy Glasow, and Carol Pope; and stepson, Ron (Karen) Sul- livan; grandson David Crawford her caregiver; and many other grandkids; great-grandkids; nieces; and nephews. Graveside services will be held in Hood River at the Idlewild Cemetery on Feb. 8, 2020 at 12 p.m. There will be a potluck immediately following the services at Ron and Karen's house.
