In the second half, the Hawks limited the Timberwolves to five field goals, one in the fourth quar- ter, forced 20 turnovers for the game and totaled 20 steals. Jacob Hernandez posted 21 points, three rebounds, four assists and two steals, and Spencer Taylor tacked on 18 points, four rebounds, two steals and two blocks to lead TD. Jaxon Pullen contributed nine points and three steals, Styles DeLeon went off for seven points and two steals, Dalles Seufalemua added four points, three assists and three steals, and Shane Floyd ended up with three points, four rebounds and three steals. TD made 20 of 57 shots, 3 of 18 from long range, hit on 19 of 26 free throws, committed just 11 turnovers and dished off 18 assists as a team. Goldendale had 17 field goals, four 3-pointers, and went 10 of 18 from the line. Nick Lee paced the Timberwolves with 11 points, and the duo of Cameron Mann and Corbin Bland tallied eight points each. Ray Rodriguez photo Hot streak moves Sherman boys to first in league Huskies using balanced attack to get back on track Rodriguez ■ Ray The Dalles Chronicle The Sherman Huskies started 2-7 on the year and then flipped the switch with four consecutive league wins, capped by last Saturday’s 57- 30 trouncing of Echo in boys basketball play at Echo. The Huskies led 38-24 through three frames and then landed the knockout blow with a 19-6 fourth-quarter surge. Sharp-shooter Nick Riggs canned 12 points, Wade Fields chipped in 11, and the duo of Will James and Luke Stone tallied nine points each to lead the Huskies, who made 22 field goals, two 3-pointers, and drilled 11 of 21 free throws. Echo totaled 13 field goals, two 3-pointers, and connect- ed on 2 of 9 from the line as Mason Murdock (13) and Cameron Scott (10) led the charge. Last Friday, the Sherman boys and girls were in action in Moro against Ione- Arlington, with the boys pull- ing off a 67-49 upset while the girls lost by a 39-25 final. The Husky boys outscored the Cardinals by a 32-17 edge in the first half and added a 14-11 third-quarter run to lead 46-28 through three frames. Riggs scored 19 points, Fields notched 17 and James poured in 14 points for the Huskies, who drilled 26 field goals, four 3-pointers, and connected on 11 of 20 free throws. Ione-Arlington made 13 field goals, three 3-pointers, and went 20 of 27 from the line. Jace Troutman had 20 points, Wesley Goad checked in with 16, three others had three points and Hunter Padberg was held to two points for the Cardinals. Sherman (6-7 overall, 4-1 league) traveled to Maupin Friday, hosts Dufur at 6 p.m. Tuesday, and makes a trip to Dayville-Monument at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. The standout trio of Natalie Martin, Jaelyn Justesen and Allie Marker rattled off 19 points, but Rachel and Faith McCarty turned the tide with their combined 25 points to spearhead Echo’s 54-24 vic- tory last Saturday in Big Sky Conference girls basketball action in Echo. Martin was good for eight points, Justesen checked in with six, Marker notched five, Mercedez Cardona had three and Daisy Brown finished with two points for the Lady Huskies, who made eight field goals, one 3-pointer, and hit 3 of 13 free throws. Rachel McCarty tallied 13 points, while Faith McCarty ended her night with 12 points. The Lady Huskies stayed tough for three quarters against a challenging Ione- Arlington squad, down 23-18 after three quarters, until the Cardinals managed to create some distance in a 16-7 final-period rally to close out the win. Marker led Sherman with eight points, Cali Johnson picked up seven and Martin was good for five points. Jessica Medina paced the Cards with 16 points. Sherman (4-7, 1-3) is still one game back of third place, and they host Dufur at 6 p.m. Tuesday, head to Dayville- Monument at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23, and host Klickitat, Wash. at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 24. Dufur teams lose to Perrydale The Dufur boys had a rough shooting night from the floor with five sec- ond-half field goals, one in the fourth quarter, in their 45-37 loss to Perrydale last Saturday in a non-league contest played in Perrydale. The Rangers led 22-20 at the half, but Perrydale went on a 25-15 second-half spurt to seal its win. Cooper Bales scored 11 points, Jacob Peters had 10, Trey Darden added six and Alex Barrett finished with five points for the Rangers, who hit 16 field goals, five 3-pointers, and made 7 of 14 free throws. Perrydale drained 16 field goals, one 3-pointer, and con- nected on 12 of 18 free throws. Josh Crawford led the Pirates with 14 points, Kiler Thorson dropped 13 points and David Domes notched six points. Dufur (6-6 overall, 2-1 league) is at Mitchell at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, and heads to Sherman at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Playing without top point guard Jessica Brown for most of the night, the Dufur girls basketball team managed six field goals in its 41-17 loss at Perrydale last Saturday. Added to the six baskets, the Lady Rangers clanged 2 of 12 free throws and had six players score points. Brooke Beachamp reeled off a team-high five points, Emily Crawford and Jadyn Fargher totaled three points each and the trio of Mikayla Kelly, Zoe Hester and Kierstin White had two points apiece. Dufur (7-5, 2-1) was at Mitchell Saturday, is at Sherman at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, and hosts Perrydale at 6 p.m. next Friday. SWC boys, girls hit the hardwood Condon-Wheeler was the next opponent on the docket for South Wasco County and both the Redside boys and girls flexed their muscles in a big way Friday in Maupin. The Lady Redsides broke open a 30-17 halftime lead with a 20-9 third-quarter run in their 54-33 romp and the boys continued that trend with a 40-20 second-half flur- ry to upend the Blue Devils in league action. In all, SWC sank 36 field goals, four 3-pointers, and hit 12 of 17 free throws. Brock LaFaver led with 26 points and 11 rebounds, Garrett Olson tallied 25 points and 10 boards, Oscar Thomas rattled off 16 points, six rebounds and five steals, and Tanner Davis finished with seven points, seven assists and four steals. Defensively, SWC (8-4 overall, 2-2 league) had 20 steals and 15 pass deflec- tions, and dished off 25 assists on 36 field goals. Ready, aim, fire: Maupin duo does it again Jason and Julie Hull drill combined 47 of 50 free throws for fourth straight district title Rodriguez ■ Ray The Dalles Chronicle Coming off a fourth straight Elks National Hoop Shoot Free Throw title, Jason and Julie Hull not only im- proved on their outputs of 22 for 25 on Dec. 21, the Maupin tandem shattered those numbers for a fourth district championship in a row. The sharpshooting Hulls answered the bell by making a combined 47 of 50 attempts to chalk up first place at the Elks Northeast District 1 Free Throw event held on Sunday, Jan. 5 at Sandstone Middle School in Hermiston. In his final round clash, Jason and his opponent, out of Ione, matched each other’s 10 of 10 split. As the pressure mounted, the Ione shooter canned 6 of 15 free throws to end up 16 of 25, but Jason made good on 14 of 15 shots and topped out at 24 of 25. The Lady Redsides stopped a streak of four losses in their last five games, as Destiny Mora-Lopez reeled off 23 points, Kylie Iverson drilled 12 and Jade McCoy contrib- uted 10 points in the team’s 55-33 drubbing of Condon. SWC jumped ahead 30-17 at the half and dropped the ham- mer down on Condon with a 20-9 third-quarter spurt. Kiara Takagi led the Devils with 12 points and both Abby Colby and Megan Aamodt added six points each. In a showdown at No. 13-ranked Damascus Christian, South Wasco County saw a 19-18 halftime deficit swell to 35-25 after a 16-7 third-quarter rally in a 42-35 road loss last Saturday. Destiny Mora-Lopez scored 14 points, Hailey Ocacio had eight and both Jade and Sadie McCoy tallied four points each. Emily Powers paced Damascus with 16 points. SWC (6-6, 2-2) hosted Sherman at 6 p.m. Friday, is at Crane at 1 p.m. Monday, and heads to Spray for a league tilt at 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 24. Now with his stroke work- ing at an optimum rate, Jason has an opportunity to get over the state hump, where he has placed second in the past two years. Three years ago, Jason made his move to the National Hoop Shoot finals at DePaul University Chicago, Illinois. Up next, the standout brother-sister combo gets on the hardwood in state com- petition on Saturday, Feb. 8 in Silverton.
