We will miss you and the laughter you gave us. We will feel the void that is left, but will celebrate the honor that you brought to our school and will continue to bring to our people. Don't forget RESPECT-that which you were bom into, and that which you radiate and are called to by being alive. Do not forget H O N O R--that which was given to you by so many in your life, and that which you gave, and all that you will bring in the years ahead. Student Council Officers Assume Positions for 83-84 By Ms. LaCroix "Elections were not held this year due to lack of competi tion," said new student body president Monte Munyan, Athebascan. Those that did, ran uncontest- ed^so received the position. Student Council executive ^officers for the 1983-84 school year are Monte Munyan, pres ident; Joanne Lane, acting treasurer, from Lummi, Rhon da Beboe, secretary; and Ruth Paul is Sgt. at Arms. ^Public installation of these officers and those yet to fill vacancies will be done at the beginning of the school year. "I hope to work with every one for the betterment of Chemawa. I want to develop teamwork and positive atti tudes and make next year the "YEAR OF THE STUDENT," concluded Munyan. I am impressed with their preparation in learning to meet those challenges," said Catholic Bishop Steiner during the Confirmation Mass held May 19 at Chemawa. In the history of the school this may be the second time such a prestigious ceremony has been held here. 8 p.m. Cake and coffee at dining hall for seniors, parents and teachers THURSDAY, May 26: JOANNE LANE ' Special words of apprecia tion go to this’year's officers, especially ASB president Gar ret Brier who will be graduat ing. We would like to thank him for his outstanding efforts and energies this year. He weathered the changes, work ed hard,' and helped make Chemawa a stronger school. We Wish him success always. SCHOOL BOARD TO MEET Members of the School Board will celebrate the class reunion of 1933, the gradua tion of the class of 1983, and efforts of students and staff members to make this a year of growth and change as they come to Chemawa May 25-27 for their regular meetings. Chemawa students and staff members extend a hearty welcome to the School Board members, and w ords of gratitude for their continued • interest and support in making Chemawa one of the finest boarding schools in the na tion. & Michelle Leneaugh, a senior and Rosebud Sioux, Sheryl Pakootas of the Colville Tribe, Maria Quincy from the Chip pewa Tribe, and Gizelie Kellum of the N orthern Cheyenne Tribe were confirm ed along with three girls from he com m unity, and ten students from Fairview—one of the state residential homes for the mentally retarded. Chemawa students have been working with sister Laurita for over 12 weeks in preparation for this rite of passage. "It is a time of celebration now that all the hard work is over," said Sister Laurita. "You are a gifted people. You are now called to accept the challenges of love, to be messengers of the Good News, prophets of hope and joy, and ambassadors of peace . . . The gifts you receive tonight make you active and adult members in the church," said Bishop S te in e r. Liturgical music for the ser vice was provided by Ms. LaCroix, Mrs. Emstrom, Don Holt of W oodburn, and assisted by Theresa Jacobsson. Ms. LaCroix presented a special slide show set to the music, 'Tootsie" as a medita tion and a way to show the changes the candidates were undergoing. The evening concluded with a reception and refreshments. Class of 1953 Holds 50 Year Reunion In the bringing together of the young and old, the dreams are much the same. As thé class of 1983 holds its com mencement exercises this weekend former Chemawa graduates from the class of 1933 have been asked to share in both ceremonies/ those honoring their class of 50 years ago, and this year's graduates. The Chemawa community welcomes them and their families back home. We have tried to remember the honor you left us and instill that in the young people who gradu ate today. We commend your dedication and love for Chemawa — for the red and black, and want you to know you are always welcome here, a home that remains support ive and concerned for your dreams then and now. , Alumni are welcomed and encouraged to participate in the activities planned.
