UP UP AND AWAY SPORTS Early in March. Chemawa students witnessed a spectacular demonstration of the Hoop Dance done by Boye Lad, a nationally known Indian fancy dancer. With great harmony, rhythm, and verve, Boye Lad paced fifteen hoops through a variety of configurations, flowing movements, and pictures. Five Chemawa students had a ride “ up and away” in a red, white, and blue striped hot air balloon on Tuesday morning of May 12. They were Jeff WhiteBear. Leland Bearcomesout, Tina Lyle, Butch CreeMedicine. and Tami Williams. They went up 900 ft. and could see all over Salem. Jeff had the ad ditional experience of seeing the balloon rolled out and inflated and of learning something of the technical side of hot air balloon operations.
