Chemawa American Comedies Ready For Production An evening of comedy for students and staff will be presented by the drama class April 2. Two one-act plays will be given. Drama students Chris Penn and Bonnie James will pre sent a short farce titled "Girls Will Be Girls." The faculty "mellerdrammer" "Her Fatal Beauty" or "A Shop Girl's Honor" will follow. The program will be spon sored by the yearbook class. Admission will be 25f for students and 50d for staff and others. However, stu dents who have bought year books may get in free after showing their receipt. Staff who have bought an nuals may get in at a red uced rate. Rotarians Picked Each month Chemawa and the Keizer Rotary pick two stu dents to honor as Rotarians of the Month. The students are honored for all-around ability and cooperation. Linda Jane and Don Abra hamson were chosen for Sep tember, Debbie Simpson and Fred Hill for October, Harry Riley and Margie Smith for November and Sophie Kusak and Keith Kerwin for Decem ber . Maynard Moore and Lucille Bodfish were chosen for Jan uary, and John Monaghan and Carolyn Kaveolook for'Febr uary and March. Junior Rotarians are al ways chosen from members of the senior class. Service to the school and community as well as grades and good conduct on campus are the basis the faculty uses in making the choice. 3 Students of the Month Honored Carolyn Kaveolook, a senior from Barrow, AK, and Alex Gregory, a junior from Levelock, AK, were chosen as Stu dents of the Month for February. The Student of the Month Award is new this year. It was designed to honor students for academic, extra-curricular, athletic or dorm living achievement. Students are nomin ated by teachers and guidance on a rotating basis. One month the teachers will select a group of nominees and gui dance will choose from them. The next month guidance will nominate and the teachers will choose. Previous winners are Lucille Bodfish and Simeon Swetzof (January) Sophie Kusak and Fred Hill (December), Mary Aug ustine (November), Mike Gomez (October) and Margie Smith. Noma and Linda Seme as Pages Once again Chemawa has two students working as pages in the Oregon State Legislature. This year they are Linda Jane, from Omak, WA, and Norma Morena, from Kiana, AK. Both girls are seniors and were chosen by the staff. Norma and Linda spend their mornings on alternate days delivering messages, mailing letters and copying documents for members of the State Senate. They get other jobs too. "Once someone printed the wrong date on the Weekly Digest and I had to change all 1200 copies by hand," Linda said. "All the senators seem pretty nice," added Norma. Both girls work for whoever hap pens to need thm, and much of their time is spent es corting honorary pages— stu dents there for one day only --around the Capitol. "I was uncomfortable at first, but now I really like the job," Linda commented. "I've learned a lot about government and how it really works." The girls have also lear ned many of the traditional customs of the Oregon State Senate. For example, Norma said that only Senators may use the main aisle in the Senate for 15 minutes before it convenes, and for 15 min utes after it adjourns. "And," Linda added, "we can't pass between the Pres ident of the Senate and a Senator speaking to him from Pages— Norma Morena and the Senate floor, even if Linda Jane take a break from they are 50 feet apart and their work in the Senate we have to go clear around Chamber.
