2 THE CHEMAWA AMERICAN P r e -G r a d u a tio n A c tiv itie s The Class of 1970 began its gradu ation festivities/ with the annual Senior Banquet at the dining hall on the evening of May 12 at 7:30 p.m. The speaker for the evening was Mr. Gordon Gunderson, Superintendent. The Class Motto is “ Youth Today- headers Tomorrow.” * Thursday, May 1 4, the Seniors were guests of honor at an informal tea sponsored by the Winona Hall stu dents and staff. The Seniors started out with a 9:30 aim. brunch the morning of May 15, Senior Skip Day. The Senior Class picture, with students dressed in caps and gowns, was taken after the brunch. Rehearsal for baccalaureate came after the pictures were taken. During the afternoon, the Seniors were given the opportunity to go to town or lounge in the dorms. At 10:30 a.m,, the morning of Sunday May 17, the Baccalaureate Service was held in the auditorium. S E N IO R PROM Stairways to heaven and colorful fountains set the mood for the Senior Prom held April 18, in the school gym. The students and staff danced to the music of The Gay Blades, a pro fessional dance band for the first half . of the dance. Later, The Northern Lights, a Chemawa band provided music of a faster tempo for those who wanted a change of pace. C la s s O f '7 0 G r a d u a t e s 14 6 One hundred forty-six Alaskan, Northwest ahd Southwest students were graduated today. Corrine Garza, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Garza of Ketchikan, Alaska, was the class valedictorian and Roy Nageak, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Nageak of Bar- row, Alaska, was the class saluta- torian. Today, May 20, Graduation Day exercises were held on the Chemawa High School campus at 9:00 a.m. The address was delivered by Mr. Paul Franklin, Head of Indian Studies Pro gram at Eastern Oregon College, La Grande, Oregon.
