CHEMAWA A M E R I CAN PRE-GRADUATION A C T IV IT IE S The Class of 1969 began i t s g ra d u a tio n f e s t i v i t i e s as guests o f honor a t an in fo r mal te a by Winona H all and the Vocational Cooking Class on the afternoon of May 7. The te a was enjoyed by the s e n io r s tu d e n ts and s t a f f members. The food was p r e pared by the Vocational Cook ing C la ss and served by the w aitresses in train in g . The Senior Banquet was held a t th e d in in g h a l l on th e ev en in g o f May 14 a t 7:30 p.m. The theme o f the ban q u e t was * I s l e o f Golden Dreams.’ The,speaker for the evening was Mr. 0’ Brien. The seniors s ta rte d out with a 9 a.m. brunch the morning o f May 15, Senior Skip Day. The remainder of the morning was spent sun bathing, watch ing TV in Winona Hall liv in g - room and games a t McNary H a ll. The s e n io rs rec e iv e d t h e i r annuals, the Chemawa Chief, following the brunch. From 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. the stu d en ts enjoyed dancing in the north end of the gym and th e re c r e a tio n room of the Chemawa s to re was a lso open for th e ir use. At 3 o’ clock, the seniors went to the audi torium to see a play presen te d fo r them. A fte r 4 p.m. the seniors went back to the regular campus schedule. At 7:30 p.m ., th e evening of Sunday, May 18, the Bacca la u re a te Service was held in t h e a u d i t o r i u m . E ugene Bourdukofsky, S tudent Bpdy P r e s id e n t, gave the speech e n title d *Man to Man.’ WELCOME BACK MR. P rincipal SENIORS LEAVE FOUNTAIN AS CLASS GIFT The C lass o f ’ 69 s e le c te d a fountain as t h e i r g i f t tp t h e s c h o o l. I t i s b e in g placed in front of the dining h a ll between the two entran c e s. When fin ish ed i t w ill throw fiv e in d iv id u a l sprays in to the a ir in an umbrella shaped p a tte r n . At n ig h t, colored l i g h t s w ill come on a l t e r n a te ly in th re e colors. The fountain has been b u ilt by the s tu d e n ts them selves with the expert help of p lant management and v o c a tio n a l shops. The f in a l touches w ill be given with a mosaic t i l e de sig n around th e o u ts id e o f th e fo u n ta in rim and some c o lo r f u l p a in t in g s on th e c e n te r p o rtio n . SENIORS MAKE PLANS FOR FUTURE This year’ s graduating class has been busy planning th e ir future. In s p ite of the fa c t t h a t t h i s i s th e l a r g e s t graduating c la ss, almost a l l o f the g rad u a tes have made plans for going on to school. Nineteen of the 26 se n io rs who have made a p p li c a t i o n to regular or ju n io r colleges have been o f f i c i a l l y accep ted . Only four boys did not sign up for advanced tra in in g and a l l fo u r o f th e s e have e n lis te d or w ill e n l i s t in th e armed f o rc e s . Five of the g i r l s did not make app lic a tio n for advanced school ing, but of th is group, one p la n s to be m arried on the day o f graduation, one plans to make a p p lic a tio n in Sep tem ber fo r a school in Los Angeles, and the other three g i r l s are undecided a t p res ent but hope to go home and think about i t for awhile. Harry Moore has already l e f t to work on ’The North S ta r .’ He is the f i r s t to be h ire d by th e ’S ta r ’ in Chemawa’ s h isto ry and Fannie T r itt w ill be the f i r s t Chemawa student to be accepted for stewardess tra in in g by a majpr a ir lin e - - Trans-World A irlin es.
