4 THE CHEMAWA AMERICAN Students Elect z6 7 -'6 8 O fficers Election weeks are always busy times around Chemawa Campus. It was no different this year. Six teen eager candidates came up with some real eye catchers fur posters and slogans. The assembly program, where the campaign speeches were given, was one of the finest that we have had. Some of the speakers attempted to woo the votes from the student body, others depended upon promises, and still another'group pointed to the admirable qualities which they possessed. After i t ,was all said and the voting was completed, the stu dent body could choose only four people to ^handle affairs of the stu dent council. Students have placed their confidence in Sheila Aga, president, J Eugene Bourdukofsky, vice-president, Margaret Garner, secretary, JoAnn Boskofsky, treas urer. SUMMER PROGRAM VARIED Exciting and inspirational is the way most students are .thinking about the summer program at Chemawa this year. The program for the summer is a combined study and work pro gram. The purpose of the program is to present science information in a manner; that is far different than what is used during the regu lar school year. Students will be given an oppor tunity tp earn school credits in the field of science for study that is accomplished. They will also be given the opportunity to earn some badly needed money for the work that they perform in the work ses sion. There will be two sections of students. When one section is studying the other section will be performing the work tasks around the campus. At the end of the week the two sections will ex change places. The first week will be orienta tion for everyone. The next week section A will go to Camp Clea- wox, on the Oregon coast, and section B will remain on campus for work. The following week the sections exchange. On July 3, section A goes to Oregon State University for spe cial session with the staff of the university. July 10, section B will go to the university. The final week will be devoted to setting up an exhibit and dis playing the work that was done. Joan Boskofsky, Margaret Garner, Sheila Aga, and Eugene Bourdukofsky take over the running of the ASB af fairs as they are installed in their re spective offices. CONGRATULATIONS SENIORS Congratulations to the class of 1967. You came to Chemawa to learn and you have stayed to fin ish the course. Anyone who has already graduated realizes that it took courage and perseverance. You have endured the tests of aca demic endeavors, the trials of close relationships in dormitory living, and the stress of socal conform ity. ", - ' ‘ While not all of you have been honor students, you have all been honorable and having been here arid learned, none of you can be quite the same again. ASP President Sheila Aga, who has been elect ed by trie students to servé as their Associated Student Body Presi dent, is a girl of many talents and experiences. Her home is Larson Bay on Kodiak Island. She is proud of her Aleut ancestry and enioys her Rummers helping her mother and father with the seasons fishing, even though she admits that tending nets is a lot of hard work. Her favorite recreations are cooking, boatriding, dancing, or iust olain hiking. Her favorite food is- fish, naturally. Possibly, she thinks, because you can prepare it in so many different ways. As; a statement to students she says, “I’ve worked with student government for two years and I know what makes a council func tion? efficiently. I have confidence that<the 67-68 year can be a great year. The students supported me when they elected me, now I want to do my utmost to support them.” EDITORIAL STAFF Mr. Hallie O.
