THE CHEMAWA AMERICAN 4 ☆ ☆ ☆ Student Briefs W aste N ot - W a n t N ot One of the things that students O. J. T. Some of you might like to know where I have been for six and a half weeks, now. I have been on the job training for the past six adn a half weeks, working for Mrs. Robert White out in South Salem, I appreciated working for these people. They didn’t want to le t me come back to school. They also said that they wished I could remain as long as, I would like to work for them., Betty Goodman is to start work ing for the. same lady that I have been working fo rf/J expect she’ll be working for this lady for six weeks too. She got there' iasf Sat urday morning and stayed over night with ipe. She wasn’t .sup posed to go thére till Sunday eve ning, but' they wanted me-to show her how to do things. So we’ve been doing everything last, Satur day and Sunday. Sunday after noon was our day off,, so we went to town for just a brief time. I came back to Candalaria. Tim ber! I think Betty will like her job when she gets used to the people The large maple, walnut, and fir trees -on- the campus are being and the'things. I realize these peo checked. Many of them are being ple are very nice people., There are topped and trimmed. If this were four children j at this place; two not done they might break or be six-year-old twins, a ten-year-old come uprooted in a strong' wind girl, .and a fourteen^y^ar-old boy. They are going to school in Salem. and' fall on someone. When I first got there, Mrs. Several trees have been cut down and are missed, especially the White wrote up a schedule for me to follow. We. fifth year j girls ..are jju st should give their attention, is the waste of food at meals. Every year hundreds of dollars worth of food is thrown away. I am sure we can cut down waste if everyone tries. You ,nevjer.” give it a second thought when you throw away food from your tray, but think of all the food that is wasted when 500 or more people each throw away a little. As garbage, it makes good hog feed, but it is very expensive hog feed. You can eat all the food on ydur tray. Don’t take something you do not want, or if you do not care for a full serving, ask the girl who is serving to just put a little on your tray A On weekends many .students eat candy or drink pop at the store before meals. They accept a full tray at meals, and then, because they aren’t hungry, they throw away much of the food. T r1 ? ☆ ☆ ☆ about through with our school here, I hope some of the fifth year girls will attend another school next fall. But for myself, I imagine I ’ll be working somewhere,g—I don’t know yet where. — Marie M.
