4 The Chemawa American Chemawa Students Entertain at Portland On January 28 this group of Nava jo and Northwest students presented a program of dances for members of the Optimist club of Portland. Mr. George P LaVatfa, area place ment officer, and a member of the Optimist club, had arranged the pro gram. The students were guests at a luncheon in the Imperial hotel aft- OPEN HOUSE February 23 was an exciting day for all Winona hall girls, for on that day they were having their Open House. All week the girls had been busy getting their rooms ready to receive guests. When the guests arrived they were invited to sign the guest book. Then, they were given a bollot which was to be used for voting for the best rooms. Student guides accompanied them through the rooms. When ev eryone had finished, they cast their ballots and were served refresh ments. At the end of the day, the votes were counted and the winning rooms announced. The voting was close for all the rooms were neat and attractively arranged. These rooms, however, had the most votes: er they had danced. They spent the afternoon visiting various stores in Portland. Meier and Frank particu larly fascinated them with its esca lators, merchandise, many depart ments and general hustle. Mr. Bramlet and Miss Koske ac companied the group to Portland. Mr. Bramlet spoke briefly at the meeting. 1 South Ha’l Downstairs, tie be tween Room 18, Dixie Sellars and Peggy Washington; and Room 12, Yvonne Choate and Eleanor Rabbie. 2. North Hall Downstairs, Room 25, Margaret Kennerly, Alfreda Bremner, Myrtle Racine and Irma Pepion. 3. South Hall Upstairs, Room 45, Mona Sella-s, Julia Jackson, Lelarne Backward, Barbara Kirk and Alice Fiank. 4. North Hall Upstairs, Room 34, Mabel Collins, Annie Bedoni, Sally Hood, Esther Becenti, Alice Becenti and Eila Mae Sale. 5. Councillors, Room 19, Imogene Washington and Sarah Lewis. HAPPENINGS Work has been completed on the Audio-Visual room. The ceiling has been replastered and the floor cov ered with attractive linoleum. Superintendent Bramlet attended he National Educators Convention in Atlantic City. While in the East he spent some time in Washington, D.C. Mr. Thomas, area representative of apprenticeship council, recently at tended a department heads' meeting and discussed at length apprentice ship for our students. Mr. LaVatfa, area placement offi cer, visited the campus on March 11. Rebecca Vielle and Barbara Davis represented Chemawa at an Inter national Night program in Silverton, Oregon. The affair was sponsored by the PTA organization. The girls spoke on "Life at Chemawa" and "Living in a Dormitory." They shared the program with other students from Austria, Germany, and Norway. Mrs. Brannon and Miss Morse ac companied them to Silverton. Mrs. Jackson of the Oregon Bureau of Labor discussed work permits for our students at the Feb. 11 depart ment heads' meeting.
