4 The Chemawa American HOME MAKING series of five games to be played. The winning team will be rewarded with a trip to the coast. The staff thanks the boys for their fine enter tainment they have given their audi ences. McNARY HALL This American finds us in the middle of February, the weather has prevented us from working very extensively on our lawn. This how ever has not prevented our indus trious hands from repairing and painting the interior of McNary so that this spring we will be able to open our doors and welcome the public to inspect our building with pride. We are anticipating the renova tion of our reading room. This room is very important in the lives of McNary Hall boys for it is here that we play host to our guests. Parties here form a large part of our social activities. March 3 the Lettermen are planning an invitational evening party at McNary. Mr. E. Hudson, boys adviser, has recently returned from Tacoma where he had taken Clyde Sampson, Mar vin Sam, Lester Aubrey, Frank Laver- dure, Joe Moses and Frank White to the Indian hospital. Gale Howard, a McNary hall boy, is back with us from his home near Carson City, Nevada, where he was called because of illness in his family. Vernon Lane and Chester Ashman, former students, were recent visitors of McNary. The first intramural basketball program wound up with a terrific climax which showed fine co-opera tion in the boys' sphere of athletics. A new program is under way which consists of six teams under the guid ance of the varsity players. Some of the outstanding players of the first round have been divided among the different teams. The following gives the line-up and the leaders, team names, and their standings up to date: W L Belgardes' Wolverines 0 2 Satanus' Daredevils 1 1 Plummers' Driving Irish 2 0 Sakotas' Brown Bombers 1 1 Samuels' Jr. All-Stars 1 1 Shillals' Bucks 2 0 These teams are all midway in the WINONA HALL The big thing at Winona hall now is getting ready for the annual Open House which we have every year on George Washington's birthday. All the employees, McNary 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grades, Mrs. Detricks' Navajo room and Mr. French's room besides the McBride hall house offi cers arc invited. We hope we will have a lot of guests. The girls are really fixing up their rooms to look nice. The quests will vote on which is the best looking and cleanest room in each hall. The best rooms will get prizes. The girls in home ec cooking classes are making cookies. Every one has a job to do so that we can all do our part to make this a success. Canasta seems to be the popular card game being played by the Senior girls in the living room every evening of late. Probably we'll have some champion players before long. Joyce James seems to be the one to get it started. Monopoly and jacks, along with jig-saw puzzles, occupy the younger crowd. Janice Rambeau and her Unit I finally got to go on their Award Trip for being the best Unit in January. The trip was postponed the first time because of deep snow and slippery rc>ads but they all enjoyed the movie and treat at the Grand Theater last Saturday. McBride hall award group went along in the bus also. Mrs. Griffith entertained the House Councillors at a "big feed" on Sun day afternoon. Sandwiches, potato salad, deviled eggs, coffee and many other good things were enjoyed by the girls. Joyce James and Jeanette Blake along with Miss Tedlock have put some very attractive cowboy decals in the Rec room to match the cur tains and add more color to the room. Helen George and Mabelle Ed wards are painting their dormitory room. It is sage green and going to be very pretty when they have finished. Winona hall house council meets every Wednesday or Thursday night, with a full business meeting of plans and problems concerning the Winona hall girls. At our last meeting we made plans for the annual Open House. McBRIDE HALL On Monday night Eleanor Rabbie's Group 3 put on a cute play from the story of "The Little Red Hen." It was really good. We all laughed and en joyed it a lot. Alice Alexander and her little girls in Groups 1 and 2 will put on the next program and we know that will be good, too. This coming Monday night is "show night" so we will have a movie for our House meeting up in the Rumpus room. The two big trees in back of Mc Bride hall have been cut down. It looks quite bare now but we will get used to it. Several of the McBride hall girls went to Tacoma hospital, to get their tonsils out. They were Charlotte Moses, Diana Jerry, Josephine James and Annetie White. We miss them and hope they get along all right and will be back soon. The little girls in Group 1 and 2 were the best citizens during the month of January so the house offi cers entertained them at a party. They played games. Eloise Butler, Maxine Elwell and Alice Alexander helped plan the games. Pop com was served to all the girls. Roberta Mc Devitt, Eleanor Rabbie and Pegqv Washington pogoed the corn for the party.' Everyone had a nice time, /lice Alexander is in charge of Croups 1 and 2. We have a party every month for the Group which is the best during the month. At the regular house officers meet ing last Wednesday the girls de cided that when the McBride girls check out the pop corn popper they will put 5c in the little box to buy the oil in which the corn is popped. The oil costs quite a bit and if we spend all of our money for that we will not be able to buy the curtains that we want for the play room.
