JUNIORS AND SENIORS HEAR TALKS The members of the Junior and Senior classes had the pleasure of having Mr. George LaVatta, tribal relations officer, Mr. Harvey Wright, state supervisor of Indian Education, and Mr. Bob Smith, representative of Oregon Technical school, speak to them on Career Day, April 25. This is part of the councilling program offered at Chemawa. SOPHOMORE GIRLS HAVE PICNIC The sophomcre class in home eco nomics planned a picnic as their last class meeting. The picnic was held in the "Fir Grove" with the girls exhibiting real talent in the arts of fire building and open fire cookery. At the end of the picnic the girls again demonstrated their knowledge af forest fire control by carefully put ting the camp fire out. The trip was a nice experience and the girls en joyed working out the cooking prob lems a picnic involves. The Student Council, in behalf of the student body, wish to express their sincere appreciation to the Chemawa Youth Fellowship for the gift of $11.90. We are certain the money will be used to purchase something which the students will enjoy. Thank you very much. McCash, Martha Trickey, Isabelle Patchpe, Leota ATTEND F. E. U. CONVENTION DESTINATION PACIFIC COLLEGE Dr. Leslie Stone, Mrs. Annette Mac Donald, Mr. James MacDonald, Mrs. Edith Howard and Miss Beatrice Morse were the elected delegates that attended the F. E. U. State Con vention held in Portland, Oregon, April 30, in the Blue Room in the Multnomah hotel. James P. Cooley, Regional Director, Eleventh United Service Region, was the main speak er. Medford, Oreaon, was chosen as the c’tv to have the 1950 state meet- ina. At 7:00 pm. th~ delegates and guests met with the Washington del egates at a banquet held in the Ev ergreen Hotel, Vancouver, Wash., in the Gold Room. The speaker for the banquet was Jason Lee, Portland At torney. After *he banquet a dance was held, in the Gold room. The members of the senior class accompanied by Miss Morse and Mr. Hudson made a trip to Pacific Col lege, Newberg, Oregon, April 8. A guide took us through the adminis tration, science, art and music build ings, also the dining hall, which was very attractive and the gymnasium. The students were very friendly and gave us a warm welcome. Tho afternoon of April 1 found the Chemawa campus a very busy place. Everyone was on the move. The oc casion of all the activity was open house a* all the shoos. The visits led one to the print shop, auto shop, shoe shop, caroenter shop, paint shop and bakery. The shops were all decked out for the occasion. As the painters had iust completed their job of dec orating, all were bright and shining. The bakers had a goodly supply of cookies with which to treat the visitors. 31 MASS SERVERS The beginning of 1949 saw a new activity at Chemawa, the "mass servers" directed by Father Vande- hey. There were eight boys in the group. In the coming year Father Van- dehey and the boys intend to or ganize the "Knights of the Altar Society" and every boy will have to know or learn the prayers before he can serve mass. SENIOR CLASS DINNER Tho members of the graduating class and their sponsor enjoyed a class dinner at the students' dining room, May 13. A special table was set and decorated with flowers and tall tapers. A delicious dinner was prepared and served by the kitchen □nd dining room staffs.
