W e saw how they m ad e ch eese a n d pow d ered milk. In m aking p o w dered milk, the w a te r is tak en out of skim milk b y m ean s of a hot v at w hich ev ap o rates the w ater. W e saw the ch eese w hen it w as re a d y to b e p ressed a n d covered w ith w ax. The ch eese w as then put into a cooler. O n our w a v b ack w e w ent to Mr. Thom as' place to see his Hereford pigs. He h as q u ite a good stock. MR. BRUSH. VISIT LIVESTOCK EXPOSITION O n O ctober 6 w e w ent to Pacific International Livestock Exposition. On our arriv al w e m et Mr. LaVatta, Mr. M urray a n d Mr. Tisinger. After w e w ere adm itted w e im m ediately w en t to the stock ju d g in g show. There w e tried to pick the stock a n d p lace them the w a y w e thought, bu t som e of our g u e sse s w ere not right. But w e found out w h at to look for a n d how to judge. (Ralph C harles, Gr. 12) W e all w en t to the livestock sale w here they w ere auctio n in g hogs a n d beef cattle. Mr. V incent Matt did the p art of Sheriff Holdem, the Interlocutor; W illiam B elgarde w as Jake, the first right end-m an; F reda Bent w as Minnie, second right end- w om an; Vernon Lane w as Spinach, first left end-m an; Florence Inga- w a n u p w as S arah, second left end- w om an. John C rane took the part of Mose; Alvin Settler, of Ned. Vernon Lane, Florence In gaw anup, W illiam Belgarde a n d Phyllis Miller sa n g sp ecial solos in addition to several num bers by the entire chorus. Instru m ental num bers w ere furnished by W illiam B elgarde, Victor Jackson an d Vernon Lane. At the T urner show ing of the Min-, strels, ap p ro p riate nam es of Turner instructors a n d students w ere in serted, rep lacin g C hem aw a nam es, thus ad d in g a p p e a l a n d local color. H om e Economics FOODS LAB GIVEN "NEW LOOK" The senior girls h av e given a “new look" to the foods lab oratory I b y m aking new curtains a n d p ainting ta b le tops a n d stools in m atching colors. They a re trying out a new plastic finish called "W ipe-O n." If this proves to b e a s satisfactory a s it prom ises, w e hope to use it on our floors a n d other work surfaces. There a re three divisions of 9th g ra d e girls taking hom e econom ics clothing. O ne division is b e in g in structed by Mrs. James. The other two a re tau g h t b y Mrs. Jeannette H auser. Some of the 9B girls are m aking skirts for their assem bly program . . INTERESTING MOVIES BOOKED FOR DECEMBER D ecem ber ’ prom ises C hem aw a students a n d em ployees some u n usu ally fine m ovie-going en te rta in ment. “Fort A pache," a n RKO pro duction, is scheduled for D ecem ber 4. W e w ere fortunate in b ein g a b le to book “The M iracle of 34th Street" for D ecem ber 11. On D ecem ber 18 “Road to Rio," a P aram ount picture, will b e featured a n d a Metro Gold- w yn-M ayer production, “This Time For K eeps," will b e show n Dec. 25. NINTH GRADE NEWS sold for $1.50 a pound a n d the re serve cham p for 61 cents a pound. (Joe Felsm an, Gr. 11) I m ade a choice of a bull but, not know ing m uch ab o u t them, did n 't do so well. The one I picked cam e fifth in line. I w as kind of d isg u sted a b o u t my bull com ing in so low a n d didn't know w hether or not to try to pick an o ther w inner. But I did try a g a in a n d did a little better, putting my calf in fourth place. After that I thought I w ould w atch a n d see how the ju d g es p la c e d them a n d why. They sure naijied out a lot of places I n ever looked in judging, therefore show ing how m uch I d idn't know a n d w ould look for next time.
