Summary of Sport Activities
Salem Vikings Massacre Indians
The Viks of Salem high rambled as they liked
to a 40-0 victory over the Chemawa Indians on
Sweetland Field last Friday, October 25th.
It was the fifth straight win of the year for
the Salem preppers. Chemawa did not furnish
much opposition, since they were outweighed
about twenty pounds to the man. On the open
ing kick-off Salem marched 77 yards in 11 plays
for the first touchdown, with Pearmine plowing
the final 20 after snaring Simmons’ pass, hurled
20 yards from the Chemawa 40 yard line. Che
mawa penetrated no further than the Salem 27
yard line, and that ended Chemawa’s scoring
threat. It was just no competition for the Viks,
and they remain unbeaten in the race for the
State football championship.
Independence Bows to Braves
Rebounding back from their defeat by Salem,
Coach “ Bunny” Bennett’s Braves won their first

The game was evenly matched until Chemawa
got a“ break” when Saluskin, right tackle of the
Indians, blocked the Hopsters attempted punt on
the 1-yard line, and Beaudry, -sub-halfback, car
ried the ball over for the only touchdown and al
so for the extra point. The game was played on
the Independence gridiron. The next game for
the Braves is with Tillamook Cheese Makers on
Sanders’ Field, Nov. 8.
