T he CHEMAWA AMERICAN VOCATIONS HOME ECONOMICS The senior meal planning group had for a test the responsibility of planning, preparing and serving a three course dinner, fish being the main dish. It was the best work they had done in the preparation of din ners during the entire quarter. This concludes our work in this department. We have enjoyed our work very much as Mrs. Melovidoff made it very interesting. We are sure the next group will like it as well as we have. We will go to the sew ing department for the next quarter. BEAUTY P age 3 It promises to be very interesting, don’t you think? After the adjournment of our meeting the cabinet mem bers held a meeting at Mrs. Allen’s house to discuss the constitution plans. GIRLS’ MUSIC CLUB Due to the fact so many of the members went to their homes for the holidays the girls’ music club haven’t had any meetings. However, we expect to see all the members present at the next meeting so that we may go right on with our work. As the old saying goes, “The more the merrier,” so come on girls help to make this club a peppy one as well as a good one. PARLOR Several of our beauty parlor girls will take the State Board test January 21 and 22. They are as follows: Vivian Barnaby, Betty Polotkin, Adeline Kitt, Edna Nelligan, Marie Farron, and Margaret Drew. Weare wishing them the best of luck. We shall let you know the outcome of this examination in the next issue of the American. COMMERCIAL DEPARTMENT Here we are ready to go to work with a will. You may be sure we have reason enough for it. Miss Hoff man has set a new and faster pace for us and in order to keep up with it we will have to do a little studying, don’t you think? The typists seem to be having quite a time, as you know this is the time of the year when we change type writers. It would be funny to an onlooker, but to the typists it’s a different story. However, Miss Hoffman is very considerate and is giving us a week in which to adjust ourselves to the machines. Well, commercials it looks like work so you’d better get busy. PRACTICE HOUSE Well, well, as much as we enjoyed ourselves during our long vacations we are just as anxious to get down to business once again. It took us a few days to get used to our surroundings and it seems rather queer to do things without being told. But I guess that is just one of the objects of coming to the practice house, that of learning to be dependable. The new members are as follows: Naomi Mespli, Rosemary Cultee, Rose Belcourt, Dorothy Schumaker, and Esther Arquette. Margaret Henry and Alvina Sampson bad the pleasure of being our guests at a very appetizing dinner. CHAPEL In chapel Sunday, Jan. 6th, the orchestra played the “Blue Danube Waltz” by Strauss and the choir rendered “Sing of the Love of Jesus” by Challinor —Mary lyall singing the solo part. A very entertaining chapel was held last Sunday, Jan. 13. The orchestra played a Spanish Waltz, “Señora” by Halle and a (B) number entitled “The Sleigh Ride” by De Rubertis. Francis Thomas sang for a solo “Ina Cloud I Will Rise’ ’—Words by Charles Roos and music by Grunn.
