BASKETBALL
Ashland Noses Out Chemawa, 17-16
In one of the best games of the season to date to be
seen by Chemawa basketball fans the powerful Ash
land quintet overcame an early game lead of the Red
skins and by a lone free throw won the game on Jan
uary 3. Players on both sides were clean and fast in
their handling of the ball and in their maneuvering on
the floor.

January 8 saw the Yew Park team from Salem go
down before the well-nigh unbeatable passing and
shooting of the A team who ran up the large score of
40-17. Sam Shoulderblade counted for 12 of the 40
points.
A considerable number of new, interesting books
have been added to our library. This collection of
books covers mystery, fiction and history and we know
that this will be an incentive to the students to do more
reading.

On January 9, the Redmen downed Woodburn high
school on the enemy floor by a score of 35-22. Wal
lace Zundle, Redskin forward, cornered the high point
honors with 14 markers and captain Ike Shoulderblade
trod on his heels with 12 counters to his credit. The
B team was nosed out in the final minutes of their
game with the score tallying up to 15-17 in favor of
the Woodburn B’s.

T
Gervais Easy Victim
The 10th of January the Redskins were hosts to the
Gervais high school basketeers. The home team proved
too much for the Gervais boys and the Redmen won by
the count of 45-3. Our boys all appeared in new shoes
this night and the combination of red suits and new,
shiny black shoes looked mighty fine. The prelimin
ary game was won by the Comrade club as they de
feated the Gervais B team, 35-6.
Oregon City Conquers Chemawa
Friday, Jan. 12, the boys’ basketball squad went to
Oregon City to play the high school teams of that city.
Despite the advantage in height that the opponents
had over them and the loss of captain Isaac Shoulder-
blade, who was confined to the hospital, the Redskins
did very well against their powerful adversaries and the
score does not indicate how closely the teams were
matched in general floor work. The final score was
33-13.
In the starting line-up was Wallace Zundle,
forward; Sam Shoulderblade, forward; Walter Majhor,
center; Eugene Keyote, guard; John Blacketer, guard.
In the peliminary fracas the Chemawa B team triumph
ed over the Oregon reserves 34-29.
