T h e C H EM A W A A M E R IC A N FROM THE CLASS-ROOMS The members of the 8-G-l are preparing a Christmas progranx. They will invite the members of the 8-G.-2. Bernice Frye is supervising the program. On last Tuesday the tenth grade biology class visited the hospital. While there Dr. Sisco explained all the parts of the skeleton of the human body. The trip was very interesting. The 8th grade students of the academic building are taking drills in mathematics. The 8-B-2 boys are ahead in their drills. We jiist finished the story of the Christmas Carol in Mrs. Epbdell’S room. Hello Everybody! This is the 6-G-l news outline. We are studying about the History of Rome and we like it very much. Some of our girls have been helping our teacher, Miss Mount joy, decorate our school room fbr Christmas. We have been very cooperative lately. We have a new boy in the 6th grade, Robert Weiser, from Beatty, Oregon. We are very busy decorating our school room for Christmas. We are going to have a Christmas program. Mabel Finley and Cecil Joe received the highest marks for the last period. Bach got an A in every subject. We have organized the 7th grade class into a society which will give programs during our home room pe riod. The oflicers were elected as follows:/, President, Edna Joe; vice president, Juanita Olney/ secretary, Alice Beartusk; sergeant-at-arms, Clara Bozeroff. A: program committee was also appointed by the presi dent. We are not going to spend any money for Christmas decorations for our room. Instead we will give the money to the Red Cross. Sections I and II of the freshmen class had a joint Christmas party, Dec. 14. The dining room was dec orated with holly, red candles and a Christmas tree. After refreshments were served they had a taffy pull and games provided the entertainment. Alice Eadd- eroute gave the first of the series of dinners to the students of the dining hall. Euella Moore is next on the list. The only mishap recorded for the first one was that some of the boys were lost. However, they did not miss their dinner. ____ , ORGANIZATION S Members of the Pootan and Eatonah campfire grottps have been busy preparing two Christmas boxes. We hope to make someone happy on Christmas. The music club held a meeting last Monday night and had a lesson in music appreciation. Meetings will be regular now that the operetta is over. The Comrade club has been making jointed toys, made out of colored paper, for the Tacoma hospital. We have 13 members in our club with Carl Mueller as our advisor. PA(i.B 3 Troop 2, girl scouts, has been busy for two weeks preparing a Christmas box to send to a family in Grande Ronde. We have also sold Christmas seals. Missionary society of Englewood United Brethren were guests of Miss Eakin on Friday the 18th. They are studying Indian missions so they came to make an inspection of our school. On Dec, 11, a musical program of Christmas carols was given by the Y. M. ,C. A. Special numbers were given by the boys’ quartet, and a string duet by Eind- say John and Eddie Bensell. All the officers of the Eittle Flower society had a meeting at Miss Roddy’s house, Dec. li^A They dis cussed ways and means of improving the organization. Emma Celestine assisted Miss Roddy in serving de licious refreshments. On Dec. 13, twenty-six boys assembled in room 9, school building to discuss a constitution for the Reli ance club. It was agreed that the adoption would be postponed a week. Officers will be elected soon. After a short program the meeting adjourned. Alice Bachman and Marjorie Martin from the child care class are taking instructions in finger-waving and manicuring from Miss Funk. Although they have worked only a short time they are doing splendid work. Cotne and have them give you a. finger wave or a man icure, A Y . W. C. A. surprise meeting wa$ conducted by the music committee. Goldie Day acted as chairman in the absence of Florence Allman. The special num bers were: Duet by Carolyn Mahone and Vera Rogers; saxophone solo by Ruby Dean; “ The Birthday of a King,” on the phonograph. The junior high girl reserves have completed 15 lovely scrap books for the Chrlsimas box. A very delightful Christmas party was given last Monday. Grade school girl reserves and members of the faculty and friends were invited. A play was presented, called “ Christmas Helpers.” East Monday the Reliance Ranglers held a meeting for the purpose of electing officers. The following were elected: President, John Spencer; vice-president, Harry Wilder; .secretary, Adam Williams; treasurer, Albert Beavais; sergeant-at-arms, Ernest Moran; re porter, Collins Anderson. After some discussion and a program the meeting adjourned. A camp fire group was organized with Mrs. Mary L. Smith as sponsor on Oct. 13. They will be known as Nitsie Pootan troop. The following officers will lead them: Guardian, Mis. Mary E. Smith; president, Maxine Paquette; vice-president, Joy Whitelaw; trea surer, Myrtle Dupree; secretary, Elsie Bisson;' scribe, Marjorie Peters; song leader, Alfreda Swan; entertain ment, Mercedes Archdale.
