XXXIV WEDNESDAY, DEC. 21, 1932 GJhe merry (Christmas, with its generous boards, <J-ts fire-lit hearths, and gifts and blazing trees, J/ts pleasant voices uttering gentle words, Jf-ts genial mirth, attuned to sweet accords, J t s holiest memories! GJhe fairest season of the passing year— GJhe merry, merry (Christmas time is here. — George Arnold NO. 8 Of late years we have to some extent lost this fine spirit, probably when we were changing from a little school to a big one. Not wholly but enough to make a difference. We can’t afford to do this. It would be a shame to lose through carelessness a fine attribute— one of our claims to distinction. Chemawa has “ come back’ ’ on tne grid-iron and on the maple court when the odds seemed hopeless. We can and will in this instance make a mighty effort to stage another and nobler come-back. Suggestions for other weeks may be turned in to Supt. Ryan. You students—no one knows you like you do yourselves. Think of your weak spots and try to plan a remedy. The Superintendent will be pleased to receive any number of ideas. CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES December 18, S unday__________________________ Pageant Auditorium—7:00 P. M. Ryan. There is a serious purpose behind this plan and every one is expected to join in the spirit and put it over in true Chemawa style. The whole thing is planned with the purpose of improving and bettering our school and it’s inhabitants. It would be foolish indeed not to make every effort to put it over. This is “ Greeting Week.” In a sense this is an effort to recapture an old Chemawa custom. At one time friendliness and good will were synonymous with the word “ Chemawa.” Chemawa (which means “ happy home” ) was in truth the most home-like of all our scnools. Chemawa students were the most cheerful, well-mannered and contented of students. People liked to visit us because they were always greet ed (not familiarly) but cheerfully and in a friendly manner by even our smallest students and because the atmosphere generally was always one of contentment and hominess.
