T he girls were defeated 26 to. 11 and the boys won 27 to 21. I t was the girls’ first appearance, yet they played a much better game th a n the score; would indicate. W est Lynn has a snappy little team and their forwards, are clever w ith the ball, and though closely-guarded, were still able, to convert their shots. Bernice Shelton and June W right started the game as forwards for us. They worked the ball into position nicely at times, but. were unable to connect for the two points. E dna Dean, jum ping center; Minnie Partain, side center; Susie G rounds and and Malda W hite Eagle, guards, rounded out our "starting line-up. Eldred George and Ronald Leaske were our high- -point men against th e boys bf W est Lynn. Both ac counted for ‘nine points, R oy PeratroYieh seven, and ' ’Leonard Vi vette tw o. T h is victory m arked-the tu rn - ing point in our series of games this season, we hope. It was the first win our team turned in this season. T here was a marked improvement in their passing and ‘teamwork was much in evidence ^nd there was much ■oft'hat fast passing game th at has characterized th e playing of our teams. There is still th a t inclination to take th e long shot when the ball should be worked in, but not ¿o prom inent us to be branded as1 consistent poor playing. T he playing of Leaske at center and Peratrovich at guard stood out. ’Leaske extended h im self to g iv e our boys the advan tage of the tip-off and h-is basket shooting was above par. Roy played as good a defensive game as we have seen. His work alone ih taking th e ball ’ off the back- board and starting it back of the offense not only saved several ' points, but netted us several. Eldred George ' showed some of his old forin and found the basket easier than at any tim e this Season. On Thursday the Salem Panthers were surprised by a defeat at the hands of bur basketeers, “who tu rn e d in their second wih b y a 22 to 18 score. Our starting line-up was the same as. that which took the floor against W est Lyon—Leonard Vivette and Eldred George, forwards; Ronald Leaske, center; GeOfge Meachem arid ROy Per- atrovich, guards. 'Isaac Brave Eagle who has been more or less out'of the running on accOutit o f an injured hand, was injécted into th e 'gaine late in the first half and made a good showing, both offensively and defen sively. H e took Leaske’s place fit center. T his week our team plays two games w ith Frariklih high schobl of Portland. L ast night the teain playèd. at F ranklin and on Friday night will play hère. Some new faces will in all probability be seen in action. Isaac Curley, center; Jesse Prettym an and Marcus ‘Simmons, forwards, and Jim Spéhfcér, guard, ate the boys to whom we look to strengthen the team. Yet the playing of'Leàske, 'Vi'vètte and G éorge Meachem h à s beeh so much improved over the early games t t e t there is a question w hether the new ones are g o in g f© cut such a b ig ‘figure. BA N D CONCERT On Saturday evening Mr. K unkel and his band boys gave' a concert' in the auditorium, aud it b eing the 'first appea'rance 'bf the organization in a strictly 'concert program, the'boys did unusually well-and'their work in the trying prograin wàs most creditable to themselves an d 'th eir director. Considering th e brief period that M r. 'K unkel has been in charge?of-the band we m ust say th a t'h e has advanced th e standard bf the organisation wonderfully. To* v a ry th e program the two vovc&l bdtettes, boys’ and g irls,’ Contributed numbers, and both organizations did splendidly. All in all t h e ‘c oncert Was in every way ‘delightful.
