OSCAR H. LIPPS SUBSCRIPTION - - - - Superintendent 50 Cts PER ANNUM ATHLETIC NOTES Our boys did so well against the O. A. C. Rooks at Corvallis last week that they looked victorious in de feat. For sixty minutes they battled the freshmen almost to a standstill. The continual stream of fresh men ushered into the game did not affect their morale nor their spirit, for they carried the “fight” to the victors every inch of the way and every minute of the game. The work of our linemen was really a feature of the game. They charged so fiercely and the back- field tackled so deadly that the ball carrier usually stayed “put.” The result was that the Rooks were often stopped back of the scrimmage line and thrown for a big loss. The greater part of the first three periods was played in freshmen territory and early in the third our team started a goal line march that looked like a certain touchdown. With Capt. Fleury, Peter Cimino and Lawrence Pratt carrying the ball they took it from their 45-yard line to within one foot of the goal where the Rooks pooled all their strength and stopped the prettiest and fiercest drive of the game. In the closing minutes of the contest the freshmen made their only touchdown. With time almost spent and an 0 to 0 score staring them in the face the Rooks started their only march of the game and scored. They kicked the goal and the game ended 7 to 0 against us. Our starting line-up follows: George Meachem, left end; Peter Rassmussen, left tackle; Roy Peratro- vich, left guard; Percy Roush, center; Joe Pentro- vich, right guard; Ernest Brunoe, right tackle; Eldred George, right end; Jake Atkins, quarterback; Solomon Fleury, left half; Peter Cimino, fullback; Lawrence Pratt, right half. No changes were made until the last few minutes of the game. The individual work of each of these boys was out standing—it had to be in order to stand up against a squad that outweighed them 18 or 20 pounds to the man. It would be impossible to point to any one player and say that he was the star of the game—they were all stars. Since the game with Columbia University our line has been strengthened a great deal. Peter Rassmus sen is back to fill his position at left tackle, and Peter does a great big job of it. Ernest Brunoe is playing right tackle. This is Ernest’s first year on the varsity but you would never guess it. Both of these boys stand well over six feet and are comparatively fast and tough to handle. With the Peratrovich brothers, Eldred George and George Meachem and Percy Roush along side of those two tackles we have a personnel in our forward wall that bids fair to better the best line we have had in several seasons. The squad has been drilling hard this week to defeat Corvallis High here next Saturday. They are coming to wipe out the 20 to 0 game they lost to us here a year ago. On Friday evening we hope to haye a “pep” meet ing to prepare for the next two games. Both will be played here. Corvallis next Saturday, and Linfield College the following Saturday. That which confronts the cheering section the most now is a cheer leader. None have as yet been elected officially to that posi tion for either the boys or girls. This will be done Friday. It should be remembered that the holders of these positions are entitled to wear the official “C,” which is worth striving for. MARRIED IN ALASKA We are pleased to reprint the following from the Oregon Statesman of last Saturday: Word has been received in Salem of the marriage of Miss Uinta Kirk and Earle L. Hunter, Jr., which took place October 19th in Juneau, Alaska. Mrs. Hunter is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James E. Kirk of Chemawa. She graduated from Salem High School and later attended O. A. C. Mr. Hunter is the son of Captain and Mrs. E. L. Hunter of the United States Bureau of Fisheries at Juneau. He was a student at O. A. C. for three years and is a member of the Sigma Pi fraternity and also of Alpha Delta Sigma, national advertising frat ernity. They will make their home in Juneau where Mr. Hunter is in business. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Sorensen and family expect to depart today for Flandreau, S. D., where Mr. Sor ensen will be chief engineer. These kindly people have been at Chemawa for a year or two and will leave many warm friends here whose good wishes will follow them. Mr. William A. Sherman will take the position of engineer just vacated by Mr. Sorensen. Mr. Sherman is from Detroit, Mich., and he is accom panied to Chemawa by his wife and child. We wel come them and trust that they will like Chemawa.
