DOMESTIC SCIENCE NOTES The reason why life is I great disappointment to so many is that we have not been trained to choose our thoughts guests, the thoughts that make for happiness, that bring sunshine, hope and joy into opr lives. We have not been trained in right thinking, and we close the avenue of joy by allowing hostile thoughts which bring blackness, despair and discouragement, to make their homes in our mind. Students, when you use your mental powers as the Creator intended you should use them, you will not be seen going through this beautiful world, packed as it is with everything imag inable for our happiness and comfort, with long gloomy fades and sad expressions. On the contrary you will be joyous, helpful, contented and successful. Good Morning! I t’s just the happy Sopohmores. We are sorry that this is our last week in the Domestic Science, but we would like to give our other class mates a chance to learn about cooking, arid serving meals also. If the high school lunches were not satisfactory, just speak to Dolly Hiett, Josephine Racine and Con stance Caisse about them, as they were making them; but we hope there is no complaint. We are proud to tell you that in our class we have two very good cooks, Constance Caisse and Aleatha Olney, who gave a most delightful dinner to the Port land basketball team. 'You’ll hear from the other Sophomores that come to work here next week. We remain, IN DUSTRIAL ITEMS The blacksmiths are building some iron ladders for use in the povyer house. The machinists have finished work on the tractor arid have it running again. The truck crew are kept busy these days hauling and cleaning away various items of debris on the grounds. The painters have been held up on outside painting by rainy weather. They have been busy at the sewing rooms and Small Boys’ quarters meanwhile. Preparation for seeding is going forward rapidly on the fartn. The garden land will soon be ready to plant the crop, provided there is no more rain im mediately. The plumbers had quite a rush recently. Two broken steam mains, a choked sewer, and two toilets out of commission, all in one afternoon. They did not waste time telling about it, but sailed in and straightened things out. Good work! The engineers have removed the oil storage tank at the power house and are pumping oil direct from, the supply line. This will eliminate considerable waste of oil for the sediment makes the oil so thick it is impossible at times to get it ouVof the tank. The masons are at present replastering halls and rooms at McBride hall and making concrète filocks. A contest is on between divisions of the.mason detail to see which division can make the most blocks m a four-hour period. So far division one is ahead with 28 blocks as its record. As soon as the plastering is done the masons will begin work on the walk in front of the west cottages, The materials are on hand and part of the forms in place at present. Ray' Ray! Ray! for our side. The Seniors are as happy as li?rks. Didn’t you see them carry off first prize in both divisions? j And as for our rewards two big, dfelickms. cakes! We want to tell you how we enjoyed them. Reginald DePoe, our former president and basket ball star, was suddenly called home on account of his father’s illness. We hope he returns, as you noticed last Wednesday at the ball game the team lafcked the working hands of Reg., Some of the Senior boys and girls were very fortun ate last week in having the opportunity to attend an opera at Salem. The opera was the Bohemian Girl and if you want to know if we enjoyed it just ask Us and we’ll tell you all about it. Miss Judd, who was one of the judges last Wednesday for the second division inter-class contest, kept us in agony when she announced the rating of the outcome. It was hard for her to tell the decision of the; judges, but thanks to her good memory, she recalled that the Seniors were victorious.____ SOPHOMORE NOTES 'he Sophies held a meeting recently for the purpose .electing new cabinet officers for this semester, with following results: President, Leander Wilson; -president, Martha Orsen; secretary, Clarence )Wn; treasurers, Norma Douglas and Ernest Orr; 1 leader, James Seeds; song leader, Lillian Holst; Hiett.
